Today marks the seven year anniversary of the date Diana Nyad completed her record breaking 100.86 mile, 52 hr 54 min swim from Cuba to Key West, Fl. We played a small role in her journey by custom making a silicone mask to protect her from deadly box jellyfish stings during her swim. It's hard to believe so much time has passed but we are still just as proud! Here are a few pics we snapped during the process and a poster she gifted us that hangs in our office. http://www.aestheticprosthetics.com//diana-nyads-record-b/

Custom Jewelry Jewelry is a great way to disguise the margins of a prosthesis and can add an extra feeling of life to a piece. In this case, this client had no remaining finger at all, so we had to get creative. We designed two, silver retentive rings and had them custom made by a local jeweler. The prosthesis was hand sculpted around the rings. The rings hold the prosthesis on without any glue and also serve to hide the edges. She also has the option to take them to a jeweler and further embellish the silver. Many full finger amputees are told there are no realistic prosthetic options available. Here’s proof that determination, creativity and ingenuity can make the impossible a reality. #aestheticprosthetics #realisticprostheses #ringretention #fullfingeramputee #customjewelry

This teenage girl was born without a fully formed left arm. Here she wears her highly realistic, passive silicone prosthetic restoration for the first time. #symmetry #amputee #hyperrealism #realisticprostheticarm www.aestheticprosthetics.com/2020/08/07/symmetry/

Our Certified Clinical Anaplastologist, Gina, puts the finishing touches on a below knee prosthetic leg before painting day. We do not use molds to create our lower limb prostheses. We sculpt them by hand out of a unique type of platinum silicone categorized as High Consistency Rubber which is sold by www.factor2.com.

Having a prosthesis made can bring up a full range of emotions throughout the process. We welcome and encourage our clients to bring close family or friends to their appointments. We are so thankful for this client and her very enthusiastic family member who came to each appointment providing positive emotional support as well as helpful critique and feedback. #bettertogether

This client has a very demanding career with long hours. She wanted to have a prosthesis that would allow her to feel confident with her feet up, soaking in the sun. She is getting the rare opportunity to take a vacation tomorrow and we are so excited that she can take her new prosthesis along!

20 Years of Prosthetic Arms These are the prostheses of one our first and favorite clients! She takes impeccable care of her pieces. You can see over time that the silicone in the older pieces is breaking down and also observe sculptural changes as our techniques have improved over time. The average lifespan of our upper extremity pieces is 2-5 years. In many cases, changes in the fitting needs of a client with natural body changes necessitate a new piece before wear and tear.
