Congress is denying seniors access to the least expensive and most well-researched outpatient opioid treatment solution available the 1,600 structured, integrated, SAMHSA-certified Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs). More than 300,000 Medicare beneficiaries have been diagnosed with opioid use disorder (OUD) and Medicare beneficiaries have the fastest OUD growth rate. Yet Congress has yet to extend Medicare coverage to these highly-regulated, highly-controlled, comprehensive ...treatment programs that provide behavioral health counseling, along with medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Now, only the Senate and the President can rectify this disparity by passing a law that will expand coverage to OTPs.
