A year ago we had planned to shut down for renovations, but instead shut down for COVID. Today we get to move forward. These past 10 years have been a roller coaster ride, can only imagine what the next 10 have in store!

Calling a vaccination a shot is so fitting. We are at war with an invisible enemy. In war, the ultimate sacrifice is taking a bullet for someone else. While your life is not in jeopardy with this vaccination, taking this shot does not lessen the gesture that you are making to protect those around you. Let us take a shot together at a new beginning. #covidvaccine

Dear Patients, In addition to dealing with the headaches associated with operating in a pandemic, we are writing to inform you of a break in at our office early this morning at around 5:00am. Fortunately, the suspect was not able to breach the office, no data was compromised and no frames were taken. We are asking for your assistance in sharing these images in case anyone recognizes the suspect. This marks the 6th attempted break in over a 10 year period. ... We hope this email will also bring awareness to this type of crime. Optometric offices are targets for criminals who look to steal eyeglass frames. Many frames are sold online through Facebook, E-bay, Craigslist or other avenues. Help us bring awareness to these types of crimes and avoid purchasing from non-reputable sources. Remember, if a deal is too good to be true, sometimes it isn’t. Hopefully, without a market there will be less motivation to commit these horrible acts. Warmest Regards, Dr. Tim Trinh

With school starting around the corner and a new virtual classroom a lot of questions have been raised about the benefits of blue light technology. Background: Direct blue light on retinal cells was studied as early as 1966 in animals and was found to be a contributor to phototoxic damage. Blue light occurs naturally from the sun but can also be found from computer screens, smart phones, LED lights in your home or office. The increase of screen time has led to concerns o...f the potential that blue light can cause harm. There is a push of recent advertising discussing the benefits of blue light blocking technology in glasses: Benefits of blue light in enhancing visual performance Reduction of symptoms of visual fatigue Protection of retinal health Improvements in sleep patterns. So, what is fact and what is fiction? A recent scientific review article looked at the effects of blue-light blocking spectacle lenses on visual performance, macular health, and the sleep-wake cycle. The group of researchers from the University of Melbourne Australia conducted a literature review of all these claims and found that there was..no statistical evidence demonstrating positive benefits in visual performance, fatigue, retinal health or sleep patterns! You are probably wondering whether it is worth investing in blue light blocking eyewear. The short answer is that it causes no harm, but there is little scientific evidence to its touted benefits. Often, blue light glasses may have a mild reading prescription built in to reduce the amount of work that your eyes may be doing on the computer screen throughout the day. However, if you are your kids are still experiencing symptoms of headache, eyestrain, fatigue, low attention span, these can often be signs of poor eye coordination (eye teaming), farsightedness, or poor accommodation. If these symptoms occur, it is always important to have an annual examination and bring these symptoms to the attention to our doctors. Additional testing may reveal eye teaming issues or focusing issues that can be addressed with simple eye exercises or glasses with prism and a reading prescription. Our goal is to always deliver care to you, backed in science. May all our students have a wonderful school year. Teachers thank you for all of your hard work! Parents...GOOD LUCK! We're praying for you! To read the full review article: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/opo.12406

Dear Patients, As a community, we have been able to weather so much over the past several years, including tragedies, natural disasters and now a pandemic. With each challenge, we have emerged stronger. Due to the recent declaration of a national emergency, we have decided to shut down all non-essential services to help contain the spread of COVID-19. There is growing evidence that COVID-19, may be spread in the absence of symptoms. To safeguard our vulnerable patient po...pulation and to provide our healthcare system a fighting chance to address severe cases effectively, we will be shutting down all non-essential services until April 1st. Services that will still be available day by day in limited hours until Friday March 20th: 1) Dispensing of current pending orders. (9am to 12:00pm with appointment only. No walk ins) 2) Medical emergencies (9am to 12:00pm, with appointment only. No walk ins) 3) Phone services (9am to 12:00pm) 4) Direct shipping of contact lens (text or call 805-495-4625 to order) We will extend prescriptions expired within 6 months. 5) Reschedule your appointment online at www.aecoptometry.com COVID-19 CARING PROGRAM We have created a page for our vulnerable population who may not have been able to brave the markets or have found a shortage of necessary items. If you belong to a high risk age group or are unable to obtain necessary supplies. Please submit a form at www.aecoptometry.com/covid-19 If you have extra supplies, and can donate, we will be updating the requests of our patients. Our office will act as a delivery drop off and pick up depot while we can, or we will connect those in need for delivery. Personal thoughts: This decision to shut down was not taken lightly as a medical office and a small business. The well being of our patients and staff remain top priority prompting us to close. If we can save one person through our actions, it will be worth the sacrifices. We urge everyone to do their part in social distancing to minimize the spread of this virus. As a reminder, the majority of us will be fine, but consider the vulnerable population, our grandparents and those who are immune compromised. It is eerie to see the fast paced world that we live in come to a screeching halt. With that in mind, let it be a time for us to remember how interconnected we are. Let our actions always be with others in mind. In a world dominated by selfies, let us find selflessness and generosity. We hope that this pandemic passes and everyone will continue to be found in good health. Warmest Regards, Tim Trinh, O.D., F.A.A.O.

COVID 19- AECO Response As healthcare providers, it is important for us to address the pandemic at hand. Our number one priority is to safeguard the health and well being of our patients. As a result, we are asking patients to consider the following guidelines and note the call to action we are implementing in our office: *If you have any of the symptoms listed below, please note that we will kindly ask you to reschedule your routine appointment as a precaution.... COVID-19 symptoms are similar to the cold or flu, and may take up to 14 days to appear after exposure to the virus. Be vigilant as severe cases may lead to pneumonia, kidney failure or death. Mild symptoms may include: Fever Headache Runny Nose & Sneezing Cough & Sore Throat Difficulty Breathing Muscle Pain & Weakness Chills & Fatigue Impaired Liver & Kidney Function *If you are over the age of 60, have any auto-immune issues, consider rescheduling any non-emergent appointments as you may fall into a higher risk category. *If you are in good health and need eye care, we will continue to provide services and have enacted a strict sterilization process of the office between patients. *The doctor and staff will enact a minimal contact policy with patients. Please do not be offended if we do not shake hands. *We are offering free-direct shipping on any order of contact lenses at this time in case of the need for an emergency shut down. *We encourage all patients to pick up any pending optical items in the office the next coming days in anticipation of any need for possible widespread quarantine over the next several weeks *We encourage patients to place orders as soon as possible to avoid possible delays as distribution centers and laboratories may be impacted in the near future. Please keep in perspective that for the majority of people this condition will likely come and go without any issues. However, as a community our main focus is keeping those most vulnerable safe; our parents, children, friends, colleagues who may have immune compromise. With this in mind, over action rather than under action is the appropriate course of action. Please stay safe. Tim Trinh, O.D., F.A.A.O.
