The IRS has extended the filing date until July 15, 2020. There will be no penalties for late filing or late payment as long as you file and pay by that date. As of now, California has not complied with the federal's filing date. As information becomes available we will let you know, If you have already filed and owed the IRS, you can change the payment method and or the date of payment by calling 888-353-4537.... As of today we are no longer meeting with people face to face. We will still prepare your taxes. You can bring your information to the office and leave it in our dropbox. The IRS has extended the payment of taxes for most taxpayers until July 15, 2020. The Franchise Tax Board has extended the payment of taxes until June 15, 2020. There are some major changes to filing your tax returns this year. The IRS will not begin accepting e-filed returns until January 23, 2017. This does not mean you need to wait to have your taxes prepared. Advantage Tax Service will file your tax returns now, and our e-filing software will wait until the IRS turns on e-filing. In the past we have seen tax returns accepted early, because sometimes the IRS will calibrate their systems using live returns. Another HUGE change i...s that the IRS will HOLD any tax refund that includes the Earned Income Tax Credit and/or ADDITIONAL Child Tax Credit. These refunds will not be sent out until AT LEAST February 15, or later. The primary reason for this is to help reduce fraud. Protecting Taxpayers from ID-Theft-Related Refund Fraud The IRS continues to work with state tax authorities and the tax industry to address tax-related identity theft and refund fraud. As part of the Security Summit, the IRS made significant inroads against fraudulent returns in 2016. While working to stop the issuance of fraudulent refunds, the IRS remains focused on releasing legitimate refunds as quickly as possible in 2017. Thus far, Summit efforts have led to a 50 percent decline in the number of new reports of stolen identities on federal tax returns. Late last year, Summit leaders detailed new and expanded safeguards for taxpayers in the upcoming 2017 tax season. The 2017 focus revolves around trusted customer features that will help ensure the authenticity of the taxpayer and the tax return - before, during and after a tax return is filed. The additional protections will build on the 2016 successes that prevented fraudulent returns and protected tax refunds. December is traditionally a month for giving generously to charities, friends, and family. But it’s also a time that can have a serious impact on the tax return you’ll file in the New Year. Here are some Season of Giving tips from the IRS covering everything from charity donations to refund planning: Contribute to Qualified Charities. If you plan to take an itemized charitable deduction on your 2016 tax return, your donation must go to a qualified charity by Dec. 3...1. Ask the charity about its tax-exempt status. You can also visit IRS.gov and use the Exempt Organizations Select Check tool to check if your favorite charity is a qualified charity. Donations charged to a credit card by Dec. 31 are deductible for 2016, even if you paid the bill in 2017. A gift by check also counts for 2016 as long as you mail it in December. Gifts given to individuals, whether to friends, family or strangers, are not deductible. What You Can Deduct. You generally can deduct your cash contributions and the fair market value of most property you donate to a "qualified" charity. Special rules apply to several types of donated property, including clothing or household items, cars and boats. Keep Records of All Donations. You need to keep a record of any donations you deduct, regardless of the amount. You must have a written record of all cash contributions to claim a deduction. This may include a canceled check, bank or credit card statement or payroll deduction record. You can also ask the charity for a written statement that shows the charity’s name, contribution date, and amount. Gather Records in a Safe Place. As long as you’re gathering those records for your charitable contributions, it’s a good time to start rounding up documents you will need to file your tax return in 2017. This includes receipts, canceled checks and other documents that support income or deductions you will claim on your tax return. Be sure to store them in a safe place, so you can easily access them later when you file your tax return. Plan Ahead for Major Purchases. If you are making major purchases during the holiday season, don’t base them solely on the expectation of receiving your tax refund before the bills arrive. Many factors can impact the timing of a tax refund. The IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days after receiving a tax return. However, if your tax return requires additional review, it may take longer to receive your refund.
