Yoga can be an excellent solution to address many knee issues helping you to manage pain, reduce inflammation and regain both your physical stability and mobility. This workshop will build off the learnings from our previous knee workshop. Specifically, we will work with straight legged poses to create space in the knee joint. You will learn more techniques with these types of poses so that you can take care of yourself in regular yoga classes, practice at home and improve ...your knee function. Kelly will specifically teach a sequence that you can practice on your own which will encourage healing and spaciousness in your legs. This sequence will also be particularly soothing for the hips, sacrum and low back. This workshop is geared toward those with at least 6 months of consistent Iyengar Yoga practice and who have taken knee care workshops previously. However, previous knee care experience isn’t a requirement. Please have 1-2 chairs, 2-3 belts including a long belt, a bolster and three blankets. Our sequence will require you to be able to get up and down from the floor without the assistance of another person. This workshop is open to anyone interested in learning Iyengar yoga therapy for the knee joint, including teachers and teachers-in-training who want to help students with knee pain. It will be held on zoom. Are you a yoga teacher hoping to deepen your knowledge of anatomy and add to your tool box of modifications for neck and shoulder pain? Then the CARING FOR NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN series is for you! Starts January 4, 2021... Mondays 5:45 7:15PM PST This is a unique course offered in three parts that includes asana and anatomy. You may take one, two or all three parts. This course will be held live on zoom. The entire 13-hour course is registered as an ongoing education program with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). It is IAYT approved as an APD-designated course. Participants who complete all eight sessions and the practicum will receive a IAYT Certification of Completion. CIYT and RYT may also use this course for their on-going education requirements with IYNAUS and Yoga Alliance. EXPANSION IS KEY No matter the scenario, no matter the feats that feel insurmountable - - - may you realize your great strength and know how truly graceful, powerful and capable you are. There are so many reasons to feel stressed, anxious, scared, etc... the list goes on ... But, give yourself grace! Know you are simply doing the best you can at each moment that is presented before you. ... Face the moment you are in as if it were an asana. Explore the adjustments that make you feel most aligned in the moment, breathe into the moment and focus in the 'here and now.' You are strong. You are graceful. You are expanding. Explore what feels good. Breathe into the moment. Get present. See where you feel most aligned. Try living in the moment as if each moment were part of your asana practice. This series of facilitated discussions and presentations, offered throughout 2020-21 by the IYNAUS DEIJ Committee, aims to help us understand race equity and inclusivity as it relates to one’s personal yoga practice and in teaching yoga. Join us for our first topic, a facilitated, participatory conversation with pro...minent Diversity/Inclusion consultant and Iyengar yoga practitioner Cheryl Clarke. We will establish Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice (DEIJ) foundational principles, common language, and greater sensitivity in how we communicate. Yoga can be an excellent solution to address many knee issues helping you to manage pain, reduce inflammation and regain both your physical stability and mobility. In this workshop, you will learn main techniques to work with your knees so that you can take care of yourself in regular yoga classes, practice at home and improve your knee function. We will work with how to modify poses that are commonly taught in class. Specialized poses for knee health will also be taught. Kelly will teach a sequence that you can repeat on your own so you can encourage healing through practice and refinement. This sequence will also be particularly soothing for the hips, sacrum and low back. Kelly Sobanski is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher at the Intermediate Junior III level. She has studied directly with BKS Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar and Abhijata Shridar including six months of study at the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India. Kelly has deep knowledge of Iyengar Yoga therapeutics and pain management, gleaned from her own practice and eight years assisting in Lois Steinberg’s therapy classes at Iyengar Yoga Champaign-Urbana and her time at the Iyengar Institute in Pune. Kelly has worked with many students with intricate and in-depth physical challenges. Kelly inspires practitioners at all levels to cultivate wisdom, intuition and luminance through the endless learning that yoga unveils.
