In our next installment of ORIGINS, Joseph Barone performs a monologue from Lee Blessing’s COBB and knocks it out of the park. Filmed by Matthew Gilmore! Lee Blessing is the first playwright we are celebrating this month as a continuation of our online series, ORIGINS. Lee Blessing is a prolific writer whose plays have been performed on London’s West End, on Broadway, on major regional theaters across the United States and all over the world. Time Magazine called him, Ame...rica’s most imaginative playwright on public issues and critical writer Philip Zwerling wrote, It would be simply impossible to imagine contemporary American theater without Lee Blessing. Actors Co-op's production of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG featured in Steven Stanley's FLASHBACK SERIES! "10 Years Ago Today: On Saturday, September 18, 2010, I was at Actors Co-op Theatre Company in Hollywood to sample the Co-op’s annual tradition of downsizing a Broadway musical to 99-seat dimensions, and as was the case exactly a year earlier, it was a Stephen Sondheim show on my calendar, but a very different one from Funny/Forum.... Traveling backwards in time, Merrily We Roll Along follows three longtime besties from the end of a twenty-year friendship to its very beginning, with director Richard Israel and the Co-op once again making for the dreamiest of dream teams. Brent Schindele, Matt Bauer, and Leslie Spencer played the estranged friends to perfection, Co-op treasures Selah Victor and Gina D'Acciaro were Franklin Shepard’s first and second wives, with Michael Covert, Catherine Gray, David Greenman, Dominic Leslie, Sam Melnikov, John O'Brien, Rory Patterson, Ben Ryan, and Stephen Vendette adding up to the very best of supporting ensembles. The much-missed John Todd choreographed some snappy dance sequences, Johanna Kent music directed the show’s expert vocals, and Patrick Burns conducted the show’s six-piece orchestra. With direction and performances to sing about, Merrily We Roll Along made for yet another annual Co-op musical theater smash." https://stagescenela.com/2010/09/merrily-we-roll-along/
