Food & gospel @ "BE LIFTED" GYM IN FULLERTON featuring Action Pantry food!!!

ACTION Food Pantry 22.09.2020

We are getting ready for our Thanksgiving baskets. We are looking to hand out 300 this year! Assignments for our Thanksgiving handout are as follows: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church 600 cans of green beans. Grace Lutheran Church 300 boxes of instant potatoes and 300 gravy packets.... Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 300 boxes of dressing/stuffing. Holy Trinity Episcopal Church 300 cans of cranberry sauce. Temple Ami-Shalom 300 cans of olives. The food pantry will buy fresh yams and provide bread and desserts from what we receive from Porto’s. We ask that all food be at the pantry sometime between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020, so we can cover for any shortages and still have time to get the packages together by November 24, 2020, our handout day. Thank you all for helping us get this done!

Hello, My name is Kathryn Brogden. I am a volunteer at the ACTION Food Pantry and the partner and wife of Director Rick Brogden. I started with ACTION six years ago on a hot summer day in August of 2013. My husband and I have been very fortunate throughout our six years of community service, and let me say it has been very exciting! It has been a privileged to be blessed with the interaction of others, to be a part of this great team. Being a part of this organization and sha...ring with our peers day to day tasks, really does give you a sense of belonging to our worlds needs, especially when you are willing and able. We have had some of the most amazing opportunities and pretty tight challenges long our way. We at ACTION have taken our services to many new and different levels of public service. We are trying to operate a food pantry that treats everyone with Honor, Respect and Fairness. We are proud of our home at Grace Lutheran Church. Much of ACTION's support has come from dedicated parishioners that have kept our pantry open over the many years of operation. I would like to thank our many clients at ACTION. Serving you is an honor. It seems like one day we can solve the worlds hunger together as one mighty community with the offer of food, clothing, prayer and a desire to help comfort each other. Please let me say, THANK YOU Pastor Steve, Grace Lutheran, our many sponsors, small food pantries and Mountain Ministries. We have seven different teams working with a group of volunteers to bring and provide a daily hot meal at 10:30 am to Larios Park. In closing, I think volunteering is great! It shows you and others exactly what it means to "Love thy neighbor..." in the most rewarding of ways. God Bless-Kathy

Hello! My name is Richard (Rick) Brogden. My wife, son and I were living in the upper desert in a city called Adelanto. I lost my job and became homeless and ended up living in Azusa Canyon, AKA The Riverbed, for 5 years. One day after visiting the kids in West Covina, my wife Kat (Kathy), saw the food pantry door open so we stopped and asked if we could get some food. They said yes but we had to wait until they were open. Kat went inside and I stayed outside to wait. After ...a short time, I started pulling weeds. A man came outside and said "I can't pay you for that." I replied "I know. I'm paying God back for the food." That is the day I met the then Director of the ACTION Food Pantry, Bernie Nord, one of the devoted volunteers at the pantry. We kept coming back, Kat would go inside and I would pull weeds. After a month, Bernie came and said that there were two openings and asked if we would like to work for the pantry. We both said yes and for the next 4 years we worked under Bernie, learning the ropes, so to speak. God's hands working thru people helping people. When Bernie retired, he informed me that he had been grooming me to take over as Operations Director. I was humbled. Two strangers, helping each other out led to such an amazing and sometimes challenging opportunity. I accepted the position and was voted in by the Board of Directors, and have been the Operations Director for almost three years now. I learned everything I know about my position from Bernie. The reason I am able to do such great work is because of his mentoring. Side note: Bernie is back working for the pantry, helping with the work load. Thank you God and thank you Bernie. Love ya for all you do for us. To my wife Kat, a special thanks, without you it would be impossible. I love you! -Rick. That's my story-God bless us all! See more

Howdy ACTION friends. I thought I would take the opportunity to introduce myself and let you know why this place is important to me. My name is Kristi. I grew up in Covina and moved away to go to school. I'm a hard worker that has always had multiple jobs at once. In 2010, I found myself laid off from my main source of income. We were right in the middle of the recession and over-weight, middle aged women are not a hot commodity in the hospitality business. I was on unemploy...ment but still had a hard time finding cheap, inexpensive meals to keep me going. For over a year I busted my butt trying to make ends meet and still pay my bills and keep my house. I ate A LOT of beans and rice and ramen was a daily staple. I wish I had known there were places like the ACTION Food Pantry but to be honest I may have been too embarrassed to go to a pantry near me. There should be no shame asking for help. We all need help once in a while. My mother (Cheryl Miller) took over as Co-Director for the pantry in 2013 and has slowly roped me in into doing social media for the pantry even though I live in another state (Nevada). I have enjoyed driving down and worked a few shifts at the pantry and LOVED meeting some of the pantries hard working volunteers and clients. Please, if you or someone you know is struggling to make ends meet come check us out. Don't be like me. There is no shame in asking for assistance. The ACTION Food Pantry can help. TLC Quilt Guild- these generous ladies filled Cindy's trunk and the backseat of her car with food for the ACTION Food Pantry. They do this every month on the second Thursday between 5:15 and 6 o’clock. It's one of their philanthropy projects. This was collected on August 13, 2020

This has been a difficult time for all of us. We have been strengthening our ties to other surrounding food pantries. When one of us has extra food we are sharing it. With Porto's, we have a lot of pastries and bread to share and exchange for other items we need. With our contributions to these other food pantries we are helping to feed over 7,500 people per week. Speaking of sharing, we also give food to many people who prepare meals, make deliveries to the homeless, and int...erface with other churches and senior citizens. Besides out clients and other food pantries, we estimate that our pantry is currently feeding over 11,000 people every week. Besides the east San Gabriel Valley cities we serve, we also touch people in need in Los Angeles, East LA, Bell, Highland Park, Brea, Compton, Long Beach, Maywood, North Hollywood, Lynwood, Hollywood, Placentia, Eagle Rock, Chino, Pomona, Industry, Colton, San Bernardino, Yorba Linda, Riverside, Orange and Victorville.
