ACT for OCD 15.12.2020

A study by Rachman and Da Silva (1978), Salkovskis and Harrison (1984), and Randomsky and his colleagues (2014) assessed how obsessions show up among adults in the United States and college students in 13 countries across six different continents. Guess what they found? Obsessions are part of the brain chatter in everyone’s daily life, whether we are diagnosed as having OCD or not. It just happens that some people have over-reactive brains that makes it difficult to ignore t...hese thoughts. https://amzn.to/2w4ktNO * * * #ACTBeyondOCD #OCD #Anxiety #Bizarre

1 - YEAR ANNIVERSARY + 20 AWARENESS EXERCISES! A year ago, the ACT WORKBOOK FOR TEENS got published! I finished writing this workbook on a winter dawn, with a loud central heater in the background; similar to today's weather as I type this post.... This has been one of the most rewarding projects I have participated in for many reasons: - It makes Acceptance and Commitment skills accessible & it shows how it goes hand and hand with Exposure - It shows how the CHOICE POINT is super-handy to navigate OCD situations. Put it simply, it reminds everyone that we do have a choice to handle those obsessions and to move towards the things we value or away from them. - It acknowledges that tackling OCD is not easy, and it can feel very hard, and yet, this workbook helps readers to find their choice point, to remember how it feels choosing, and always choose how to live their life! - It teaches readers 20 unhooking skills - using a super-cool unhooking log- to practice and try day by day as different ways to handle obsessions and urges to do compulsions I want to take this moment to say THANK YOU to all of you for your support with this workbook and hope it was helpful in your journey managing OCD. Many thanks to @actauntie, @jkp, @ocdstories for your support in creating this resource! I have created A FREE PDF WITH 20-AWARENESS EXERCISES, ready to put into practice, so you can practice the skills of stepping back, watching what your mind does, and staying in the present. Hope you're having a good week! Today, I'm sharing with you the series, getting mobilized: from behavioral withdrawal to behavioral activation. Here is the background of this series: disconnecting, withdrawing, and disengaging from activities that are part of our day-to-day life are very common playing-it-safe moves because by avoiding we protect ourselves from facing discomfort, distress and feeling overwhelmed. Avoiding a situation, activity, or person from time to time is ...one thing; the challenge is when these actions become chronic, repetitive, and long-standing to the point that they start shrinking our life. If you, or a person you know, is dealing with low mood, sadness, depression, disconnection, and are struggling to reconnect, you want to learn the basics behavioral activation skills with the added benefits of acceptance and commitment training. Not every day will be your day, but there is always tomorrow. If you feel stuck, try imagining the future you want for yourself. It is attainable, don't give up. * * * #OCD #ERP #ACT #CBT #ChoicePoint #intrusivethoughts
