Check out this artists talk at Pitzer Tuesday afternoon, jointly led by photographer Jennifer Little and Historic Tribal Preservation Officer and historian Kathy Bancroft. Their research surrounds the litigation to remediate dust pollution near the Owens Dry Lake Bed, which has been dry since 1926 after over-pumping from the City of Los Angeles. The lakebed, dry for 90 years, is the largest single source of particulate matter air pollution in the country. It is also the site ...of at least one massacre of the Paiute Indians. Artifacts discovered two years ago but kept quiet to prevent looting and vandalism point to evidence of the massacre of 35 Paiute Indians in 1863, said Kathy Jefferson Bancroft, tribal historic preservation officer for the Lone Pine Paiute-Shoshone Reservation. Kathy will lead the conversation along with Jennifer Little. This conversation will be held at the Broad Performance Space in Broad Center from 4:15 to 5:30. The presentation is the first amongst a series of visiting artists as part of Pitzer Art 18, Unsettled Landscapes, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
