Father Junipero Serra will be canonized by Pope Francis on September 23 in Washington, DC. The canonization has been met with strident protests. Often lost in the discussion is the real Junipero Serra. The Academy of American Franciscan History has produced a short film to provide the basic facts of Serra's life and to introduce the controversy. The video: "Introducing Juniper Serra: The Newest Saint," can be viewed at the following website: https://vimeo.com/139092716. Let the debate continue.
