This is a wonderful opportunity for creative artists to let the community see their work. Artwork that ties to the community’s social, cultural, and/or historical identity will be a plus. Thousands of people will drive or walk by the utility boxes every day. In addition, photographs of the boxes will be displayed on the City of Santa Maria public art tour webpage at www.cityofsantamaria.org/art and other print and electronic media sources. After two very successful rounds of Utility Box Art and the creation of 10 pieces of beautiful artwork, the Recreation and Parks Department, along with our partner PLAY, Inc., are excited to be adding up to five additional works of art with the help of local artists, stated Dennis Smitherman, Recreation Services Manager. This program is made possible by the generous contributions from PLAY, Inc., Tri-W Enterprise, BML Landscape Architect, and JD Humann Landscape.

Member Marie Arnold is having a show at Gallery 113 from February 28 until March 27, titled "California Abstract Landscape". "From the Pacific Ocean to the forests of the Sierra, California landscapes are a constant source of inspiration. During various times of the year, the landscape changes from dry summers where forests often burn without respite to the calming and serene forests of the dark winters where colors merge with the sky. I have purposefully not given names to all of the paintings, as I would rather you connect with the colors, feelings, and sensations." Marie Arnold
