Children of the Fallout After the "Castle Bravo" nuclear test of 1954, and subsequent US missile tests since, many residents of Bikini and other atolls of the Marshall Islands, were forced to evacuate to the tiny island of Ebeye. As a result, Ebeye became one of the most densely populated islands in the world, with 15,000 people huddled on 80 acres of land. More than half of the residents are youngsters, under the age of 18. During my brief visit to the island, i got a gli...mpse of their life. I lamented that they live, forgotten by the rest of the world, in overcrowded poverty and have survived through many outbreaks of disease. And yet, the children of Ebeye have learned to own their environment and play with enviable recklessness. Found an obscure flagpole leading to an underground cave and slid down the massive ice heap (hoping to find an exit route), and shot in fairly frigid conditions. Fun. Monochrome Beach Reynisfjara is a beach of amazing character, near the village of Vik and along the Southern Iceland coast. Monochromatic in color, the striations that are created by the waves washing up against the black sand, are fascinating to watch as they disappear almost as soon as they appear.
