I just had a long talk with Angela Dalton of the Anaheim City Code Enforcement Department. The regulations for dance schools in the purple tier call for outdoor... classes only, and as such are not allowed to be teaching inside the facility. This is all of Orange County, not just Anaheim. California does not have state police to enforce it, unfortunately. The city will issue citations if they receive official complaints. It's up to each individual business to make their own decision. That means it all depends on each individual studio owners values and ethics to be open or not. I'm hearing lots of studios are fully open, and have been some time. I will make my own decisions on when the school re-opens. I will not file a complaint to the city about them- I'll let them keep company with their conscience. From what I'm hearing and reading, the county could easily move into the red tier in the next week or so. When that happens, I will adjust my classes according to the "HSDA Tier" system (on the website). It will take a week to set up the hybrid schedule. Perhaps these other studios just have families that put a bit less importance on their kids safety, maybe it's the studio owners. That's not within my sphere of influence, so I'll focus my energies on what's inside that sphere: You, and your school. BTW: Just over 50% of you will be waiting longer, which explains the transition on the HSDA Tier sheet. For the private lessons, I use common sense. Watch the video clip: https://youtu.be/3qqOsfRGUJY The safety of every person entering the school is my first concern. Physical safety in classes for the last 4 decades, plus COVID safety right now. Yes, I'm sure all studios have been hard hit financially- the HSDA is definitely on that list. Those of you that know me also know that I've never done this for the almighty dollar, and I'm not about to start now. The "studio" is an address, with mirrors, barres and (nice) dance floors. The "school" is people: You. I'd like to hear from all of you about this. Your opinions are appreciated and needed to help me make the best decisions. Thanks for reading- Be patient, and be safe, Mr. H

Dancers need to keep their instrument in shape on a daily basis.

We're making plans and getting ready for when we can re-open:

Online classes at the Hirschl School are unique: Mr. Hirschl is not at the studio, demonstrating steps on the dance floor, and having students play follow the ...leader. He is at his home office, sitting in front of the screen, watching the whole class the whole time. He is correcting, taking questions and giving answers. Classes are interactive & progressive, and students are learning and improving. Significant modifications have been made to the online classes to make sure they are safe. Examples: Less jumps & jarring movements, and more emphasis on technique, body alignment & curriculum. Classes are modified to work well in a 6x6 foot space. See for yourself: The first 2 classes are FREE to anyone who hasn’t taken an online class with Mr. H. No charge, no obligation. We just want to show you there really is a difference.

New I.O.C. Class at the Hirschl School: Close-ups We’ll take very close looks at arms, heads, legs and feet to more effectively make corrections and check sta...tus. The class is open to ballet level 3 and up students, and non-beginning adults. This includes pointe work for students en pointe. Tuesdays at 6:00pm and Wednesdays at 7:00pm

Since we can't get out and see a live performance this year, hopefully this will suffice. I don't have a favorite production, as they all have the warmest memories for me. Enjoy- Mr. H

Taking dance helps kids SUCCEED in academics. If you care, and want them to get the best chances in this life, get them into the arts. Don't take my word for it... (even though I've been teaching in this profession 48 years), please contact anyone in-the-know to prove it. Of course, if you don't agree, I completely understand. We still need people to work at Taco Bell and Burger King. You need a focus, an escape, enjoyable and healthy things to do to put you in a good mood, reduce your stress and anxiety, and to sharpen your brain. For you, and for your kids. Get back to doing what you love. Stay safe and healthy; physically & emotionally, Mr. H

Have you been listening to your doctor? Exercise is always good for the human element. Especially now, and for all ages. in-school or online. Reminder: online i...s a great way to get the exercise AND help the undue internet eyestrain. When you take dance and conditioning classes online you're at least 6 feet from the device, remember? You need a focus, an escape, enjoyable and healthy things to do to put you in a good mood and reduce your stress and anxiety. For you, and for your kids. Get back to doing what you love. The Barre-Barre classes will be changing their name to something more appropriate and accurately descriptive. It's more of a "Getting to Know Your Body Again" kind of thing. No pirouettes, no point shoes, no ballet. You can try it, or can keeping sitting (like you are now) in front of your device as your butt gets wider and flabbier (like mine). Your choice.

It's so INAPPROPRIATE. It's been completely STRIPPED. "Barre-Barre" is INAPPROPRIATE! Acutally it's the name: It's not a proper definition of what we do in tho...se classes. It makes it sound too much like a ballet class. If you've taken one, you know that the ballet stuff has been STRIPPED from them. I need your help: Please take a couple of classes (Tuesdays & Thursdays at 8:00PM) and let me know if you come up with a more accurate descriptive name. See more
