There will be a chapter meeting this Wednesday, at 4:30pm in the Hanna room. Have questions prepared that you would like asked to petroleum geologists next weekend at an event two of our officers are attending. See you there!

There will be a Meeting in LO 1212 (The Hanna room/Sed room) this Thursday at 1:30pm. Expect pizza. We will be discussing the upcoming PS-AAPG Student Expo and electing new officers of the CSUN AAPG chapter for the upcoming year. See you there!

For those attending the PSAAPG/PSSEPM/SEG Convention: The CSUN AAPG student chapter would like to try to use some of our funds to secure hotel rooms for those that may be attending the conference May 2nd to May 6th (or any number of days in between). In order for us to evaluate this as a possibility and start looking at options, we need to know how many people would like to take advantage of group lodging for the conference. ... Please keep in mind, filling out this form does not guarantee a place to stay, but it will guarantee that you are being considered for whatever we can afford as far as lodging for the conference goes. Hello everyone! I just registered for the PSAAPG Meeting in Oxnard and am looking for room mates for a hotel out there. I Found a pretty good deal (~$91/ night at a Best Western). If I can share with 2-3 more people, it will be pretty inexpensive for all of us. :D Ill be at the convention from 5/1- 5/4 (3 nights, 4 days, till Monday evening, during/after the Brew and Browse). If anyone else is staying for that amount of time and would ALSO like to carpool (Maybe we can take a... dept van?) Let me know! CSUN's 2015 Imperial Barrel Award team. We're all very proud of what we accomplished, and offer congratulations to all the other schools that participated. Huge thank you to the Department of Geological Sciences at CSUN, specifically to Doug Yule and Vicki Pedone, and to our industry mentors (and CSUN alumni) at California Resources Corporation: Rebecca Greenberg and Tony Reid. The support and guidance we received from all of you was invaluable.

Don't forget to register for the 2015 PSAAPG Convention in Oxnard, CA, May 3-5. While you are at it, sign up for a short course and expand your knowledge! The following short course is still open Sequence Stratigraphy for Students:... This two day short course, for students only, provides a historical perspective on the development of stratigraphy in general and focuses on the development of sequence stratigraphy in particular. Sequence stratigraphy is a methodology that uses stratal surfaces to subdivide the stratigraphic record. This methodology allows the identification of coeval facies, documents the time-transgressive nature of classic lithostratigraphic units, and provides geoscientists with an additional way to analyze and subdivide the stratigraphic record. We provide a mix of lectures and hands-on exercises utilizing datasets that were instrumental in formulating concepts of sequence stratigraphy.

Hello Everyone! The Great Book Giveaway is TODAY!! There are five boxes of books on the bench on the south wall of LO 1205. Please browse through them and take any books that you would like.... It is first-come, first-served. The door opens at 8:30 am. The ONLY thing that I need you to do is to PLEASE check off all of the titles that you take so that we have an accurate count of the books that are given away so that I can provide this information to the donor.
