New Zealand 2016 ||I find the below explanation extremely useful when helping clients and their loved ones understand trauma. "Traumatized people chronically feel unsafe inside their bodies: The past is alive in the form of gnawing interior discomfort. Their bodies are constantly bombarded by visceral warning signs, and, in an attempt to control these processes, they often become expert at ignoring their gut feelings and in numbing awareness of what is played out inside. They learn to hide from their selves. -Bessel A. van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma|| #thenomadicpsychotherapist

New Zealand 2015 ||You can be healed and still healing. You can be open and still hurting. You can be brave and still frightened.-Dr. Rebecca Ray||So often we tell ourselves to choose. It must be one or the other we say! Being critical or dismissive of our feelings won't facilitate growth. Competing feelings are completely normal. It's okay to feel two things at the same time. #thenomadicpsychotherapist

India 2011 ||All of our suffering in life comes from saying one thing and doing another.-Debbie Ford|| On point There are, of course, many unique reasons why humans suffer and one of the themes I noticed early in my career working with addictive behaviors was that most, if not all of my clients, whether they were aware of this or not, presented with behavior that was not aligned with their moral compass. That is an extremely distressing experience for us humans, espec...ially if we aren't aware of this process. It is so crucial as providers and as friends/family that we start to change our language, tone and delivery when expressing concern, fear, sadness, frustrations ect.. Separating the person from the problem (or behavior) is a helpful starting point. For example, someone who engages in problematic drug use is not a bad or immoral person, they are, however; using unhealthy coping strategies to manage immense pain that hurts themselves, but also the people around them. I thoroughly enjoy working with this population, as they are some of the brightest, intellectually gifted, emotionally attuned, artistic, creative people I have ever met. We can help support their journey, and really anyone's journey as they realign and reexamine their own moral compass! #thenomadicpsychotherapist See more

Are you paying attention to your heart? "In many Muslim cultures, when you want to ask them how they’re doing, you ask: in Arabic, Kayf haal-ik? or, in Persian, Haal-e shomaa chetoreh? How is your haal? What is this haal that you inquire about? It is the transient state of one’s heart. In reality, we ask, How is your heart doing at this very moment, at this breath? When I ask, How are you? that is really what I want to know. I am not asking how many items are on your to-...do list, nor asking how many items are in your inbox. I want to know how your heart is doing, at this very moment. Tell me. Tell me your heart is joyous, tell me your heart is aching, tell me your heart is sad, tell me your heart craves a human touch. Examine your own heart, explore your soul, and then tell me something about your heart and your soul." https://onbeing.org/blog/the-disease-of-being-busy/

Deeply connected couples know that each person is capable of change over their lifetimes. What rarely changes about a person are their deeply held core beliefs. Deeply connected couples share these beliefs, morals and values, which enhances the depth their relationship because they connect to each other on a meaningful level. https://www.powerofpositivity.com/5-habits-of-deeply-conne/
