There are two ways for contaminants in a private water system to enter the public water supply: backpressure and backsiphonage. What is backpressure? Backpressure is a condition that occurs when the water pressure within your plumbing system exceeds that of the public water supply. Backpressure can be caused by a difference in elevation, a pump, a steam boiler, or by other means.... What is backsiphonage? Backsiphonage often occurs when there is a sudden drop of pressure in the public water main that supplies water to a house. This can happen if a water main breaks, if a fire hydrant is turned on, or for other reasons. Don't be caught with a broken backflow preventer. How do contaminants enter the water supply? Contaminants can enter the water supply when a failed cross-connection allows water or another liquid, gas, or even a solid to enter the public water supply. For example, if a pipe in your outdoor irrigation system cracked, and your backflow preventer was broken or not present, then dirt, microbes, insects, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizer could enter the public water supply. Make sure your backflow preventer is working properly. Schedule an inspection with us today.

If your backflow preventer stops working or malfunctions, it’s possible for a cross-connection to exists that allows man-made contaminants to enter the public water supply. These contaminants can cause serious illness or even death. You’re responsible for the water system from the outlet of the water meter or service connection on your property, and if anything fails on your side of the meter, you could be held liable. Why are backflow preventers necessary? You see them everywhere. What do they do? The systems which distribute municipal water supplies are designed to allow water to flow in one direction only. However, abnormal conditions can occur in water systems that cause water to flow in the opposite direction from that which was intended. This condition is called backflow, and it can contaminate water supplies in unprotected systems. Backflow prevention devices ensures safe drinking w...ater flows from every tap in the United States. The Safe Drinking Water Act was passed by Congress in 1974. The act allowed the Environmental Protection Agency to establish national health-based standards for drinking water that protect against both naturally occurring and man made contaminants. This included installation of backflow preventers. Get your backflow preventer inspected yearly. Call us to set up an appointment or get a quote. http://tripleabackflow.com/home/contact-us/

Why do some companies put cages around their backflow preventers? With the high incidence of copper and metal theft, thieves are looking for a quick way to make a few dollars. Thieves have been known to hook up a chain to a tow hitch and simply yank smaller backflow preventers out of the ground. Replacing a stolen backflow preventer can be expensive, not only for the unit itself, but for the damage, repairs, and testing to certify your system can be reconnected to the public drinking water supply. Cages prevent thieves from stealing your backflow preventer. If you have a smaller backflow preventer, contact us for information on installing a cage to protect your water supply and your business.

WHY DO YOU NEED A BACKFLOW PREVENTER? A lot of business owners know they’re required to have a backflow prevention device installed, although they’re only generally sure of what they do. Simply put, a backflow prevention device is a one-way valve the only allows water to move one way: from the supply to the customer. Why is this important? Well, supposed your neighboring business’ irrigation system springs a leak. You wouldn’t want the contaminants present in his outdoor spri...nkler system to get into your potable water supply, would you? That’s what a backflow prevention device is good for. It doesn’t allow water to flow backward into the primary water supply. To make sure every backflow prevention device is working correctly, most municipal codes required you have your backflow device inspected annually by a Certified Backflow Tester. That’s where we come in. We can test your device and certify that it meets all applicable standards and regulations.
