Have a happy and joyful Thanksgiving holiday to all our friends and family. Thanksgiving Tidbit: Why we celebrate Thanksgiving... In 1621, and after the Plymouth colonist’s first successful harvest, Governor William Bradford invited their Native American allies to share in a celebratory feast that would last three days, and while the Pilgrims did not use the term Thanksgiving, it is remembered as America’s first Thanksgiving. In 1623 they held their second Thanksgiving, and during the American Revolution in 1789, the Continental Congress designated more than one day of thanksgiving a year; with each day being an opportunity to give thanks. However, the Thanksgiving Day tradition was primarily celebrated by Northern Americans, as Southern Americans were largely unfamiliar with it; New York being the first state to officially adopt an annual Thanksgiving holiday, doing so in 1817. It wasn’t until 1863, after a 36 year campaign by Sarah Josepha Hale to establish Thanksgiving as a national holiday that President Lincoln declared it to be, and designated the last Thursday of November as the annual day. American’s have celebrated it on this day ever since; although, in 1939 President Roosevelt tried to move the holiday up a week, but there was great opposition.

We would like to take a moment to thank every veteran for everything they, and their families, have given for our country, so that we have the freedoms that we have. Without their service we would not be the America we are today. Thank you so much for all you have given. Tidbit: Veteran’s Day was originally termed Armistice Day, which was for the temporary cessation of hostilities that took place on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, in 1918. Afte...r the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11, 1919 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations" It was on May 13, 1938 that this day, known as Armistice Day, became a legal holiday; a day to be dedicated to world peace and to honor veterans of World War I. However, on June 1, 1954, after some persuasion by veterans’ service organizations, the Act of 1938 was amended by eliminating the word Armistice and adding the word Veterans in its place, to create what we know today as Veteran’s Day.

September 11, 2001 (or 9/11 as many of us refer to it as) That alone stirs so much in each of us. It makes us think of the horrible things that took place that day, look back to what we were doing at that very moment, and dream of how things would be different if they could. We would like to take a moment to remember the 3000+ lives that we were able to be a part of, and that we benefited from knowing and loving for the time that they were with us. There are so many wonderful memories of each of those individuals; what they did, who they were, how they changed and shaped our lives. While we need to be aware of what did take place that day, and be vigilant to ensure that it doesn’t happen again, more importantly, we need to keep those individuals; our family or friend, in our hearts; for they are the ones who are important, on this day.

To all our friends and family we would like to wish you all a wonderful Labor Day. Here is a little tidbit about Labor Day: Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers, and is celebrated the 1st Monday of September. The founding of Labor Day originated during the Industrial Revolution due to the average American working 12 hour days and 7 days a week, to earn a basic living, and is mixed with violence, strikes, and celebration. However, it wasn’t until 1894, when Grover Cleveland made Labor Day a federal holiday, after a failed attempt to break up a railroad strike between American Railroad Union and Pullman.

Summer is here... While we love this time of year; beaches, picnics, bbq's, family time, vacations, summer break, and so much more, the last thing we want is for what we thought would be a relaxing and comfortable day indoors, to become hot, overbearing, and miserable for ourselves and our pets. We recommend that our customers have their a/c units serviced, so that they are ready for the heavy use during this time of year. Have you had your a/c service performed? If not, contact our office to schedule a day and time that works for you. If you would like to contact us online, just click on the appointment tab above, and we’ll get it set up for you. Have a great summer!

Happy Father’s day to all the wonderful fathers; far, near, and those in our hearts! You’re appreciated for all the hard work, and heart and soul, that you have put into each day throughout the year. Have a great and safe day. Tidbit: On June 19, 1910, Sonora Smart Dodd had a celebration for her father, Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, at the Spokane, Washington YMCA. Mr. Smart was a single father who raised six children. This is where it all began.
