Hi Desert Fly Fishers 08.11.2020

Steve took the attached video on on the same Bishop trip mentioned below. By the looks of the fished they estimated its weight at 10lbs +! Unfortunately this fish wanted a super quick release and dropped off at the boat! . Based upon the fun good time they had filming and fighting this fish, I’m sure it will qualify for Bring on the Smiles Sunday.

Good morning Hi~Desert Fly Fisher’s, here’s some additional photos of Steve and Carmen on a recent five day fishing trip to Bishop for the Bring on the Smiles Sunday photos. Steve and Carmen fished the Upper Owens River, Upper Twin Lakes, Bridgeport, South Lake and Lake Mary in Mammoth. The big fish were caught at Lake Mary in Mammoth on black leeches. Carmen was using a 6wt rod with a sinking tip. Steve used his 7wt rod with a sinking tip to catch these monsters. Congratulations to Steve and Carmen for their very successful fishing trip.

Wanted to give a big shout out to Jarett Coons from Sierra Mountain Trout Guide Service for a great day of guided fly fishing, this past wednesday. Joining us was my brother in law Norman, who is a rookie in the stream. Jarrett was extremely patient, so helpful with solid techniques pointing out all prime targets to get my brother in law hooked up with some beautiful trout! Most of you know its been a difficult 15 months for myself with my arm injury . This was the firs...t time actually getting in the water and fishing like there was no tomorrow. Thank you Jarett for a fabulous day in the Bishop gorge and taking us to some great trout water, you sure know your spots! We all need a break from all of that is going on, give Jarett a call, or any of the great guides that HDFF has had the pleasure of hosting at our club, they need are support! I assure you, you'll have great time ! Thanks again! Rodney Romero

Hello Hi~Desert Fly Fisher’s, below is an email sent by our club president. I wanted to post it on our FB just in case you missed the email. Hi All, Sadly, we will not be able to have the event at Jess Ranch over COVID concerns.I was told the Spring will be probably okay... Several have recommended we have a casting practice. I am suggesting, on the same day, we do that at the little park on Outer 18. This would be a time when we could go thru the new FFI casting certification process for the first level. I will post the requirements shortly. Additionally the CFFO is the 26th. I will be in Kernville. Here is the link for the event. https://ssffclub.org/2020-california-fly-fishing-open John Cary President, Hi-Desert Fly Fishers

FOREST SERVICE TEMPORARILY CLOSES SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA NATIONAL FORESTS, INCLUDING INYO NATIONAL FOREST Today the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region an...nounced the following temporary closures and fire restrictions to provide for public safety and reduce the potential for human caused fire starts. Prohibition of the use of any ignition source on all National Forest System lands (campfires, gas stoves, etc.) throughout California. Also the closure of all developed campgrounds and day-use sites on National Forests in California. Closures and restrictions will go into effect at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on Monday, September 7, 2020, and will be re-evaluated daily as conditions change. Closure of the following National Forests: Stanislaus National Forest, Sierra National Forest, Sequoia National Forest, Inyo National Forest, Los Padres National Forest, Angeles National Forest, San Bernardino National Forest, and Cleveland National Forest. The wildfire situation throughout California is dangerous and must be taken seriously. Existing fires are displaying extreme fire behavior, new fire starts are likely, weather conditions are worsening, and we simply do not have enough resources to fully fight and contain every fire, said Randy Moore, Regional Forester for the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region. We are bringing every resource to bear nationally and internationally to fight these fires, but until conditions improve, and we are confident that National Forest visitors can recreate safely, the priority is always to protect the public and our firefighters. With these extreme conditions, these temporary actions will help us do both. The temporary forest closure includes the highly visited areas in the Lakes Basin and developed campgrounds and Reds Meadow/Devils Postpile and the associated developed campgrounds. The USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region will re-evaluate conditions daily. The National Weather Service in Reno (www.weather.gov/rev) has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon today, Monday, September 7 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 8 for gusty winds and low humidity for the Eastern Sierra. A Red Flag Warning is the highest alert issued in advance of critical weather and dry conditions that could lead to rapid or dramatic increases in wildfire activity. We urge all residents and visitors to use extreme caution as a simple spark could cause a major wildfire. Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work or campfires. Good afternoon Hi~Desert Fly Fisher’s. I hope everyone is doing well as we approach the fall season. It remains a very difficult time for all of us in this country as we continue to face so many continued hardships. Be patient, stay strong and one day soon we’ll all get through these terrible circumstances. Paul Sinclair contacted our club president John Cary and discussed the possibility of a club get together of some sort in the near future. Paul suggested we could perha...ps have a fly tying session, fly casting class topped off with a BBQ. John was thinking about an October 24th time frame if there’s interest in the event. This posting is a follow up to the email you received from John today. If you’re interested, please contact John so we can get a head count. We would need a minimum of 10 members to put on this event. Jim Ower Social Media Coordinator
