Time lapse video of a LML Duramax tare down. The CP4 injection pump failed sending debris/ aluminum through the entire fuel system. This can be caused by many different things as these pumps are finicky bitches. They like the cleanest of cleanest diesel fuel. That means get fuel from a busy station where it hasn’t been sitting for long periods of time in the tanks. Change your fuel filters at a good interval (15,000 miles). Do not put gasoline or diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) in... your fuel tank ( if you do, don’t turn the key on and definitely do not start or run it.). When these pumps fail (this goes for all CP4 pumps GM or Ford) it sends aluminum through the entire fuel system. Injectors, fuel rails including sensors, fuel lines, fuel coolers, fuel pump and injection pump need to be replaced. Aong with dropping the tank and completely cleaning the sending unit and tank from all metal. This can be a very costly repair, when this happens we try to offer a better solution. First with all GM models we recommend a @fassfuelsystems even more important for the LML’s with a CP4 pump. We also will recommend a @ssfueled CP3 conversion kit (Which is CARB compliant) this kit retro fits an older style injection pump to the vehicle a CP3 pump. This style pump is much more resilient to debris and contamination than compared to the CP4 pump. Also when the CP3 pump fails it doesn’t require you to replace your entire fuel system just a pump replacement. For the Powerstroke CP4 issue when one fails or as a preventative measure we will recommend going with a 15+ style CP4 or a @exergyperformance stroker pump (these flow more and tend to fail less in). We also while in it will install a disaster prevention kit.
