We're having more tree milling and wood clean up done today. We found this new "baby" rising to life on the farm. So happy to have a new pine tree! Too many have been lost. This one is on the front perimeter by the road, where once stood a dozen majestic oaks, a couple of pines, and a Eucalyptus tree. Those are all gone now. But here is a fresh start!

Here are some of the beams we just cut for our future barn. These came from our pine trees that were lost in the Valley Fire. More beams to be cut soon.

Penny is missing her sister Princess. She told me so today. She came to me and hugged my leg and literally cried. Poor sweetie. They were very close. When Princess had her first piglets after the Valley Fire, Penny was right there with her helping to take care of them. Auntie Penny. Then when Penny was able to come home to the farm, we decided to adopt Princess so they could stay together. It was a sweet reunion.... Then we discovered that they were both pregnant! They had their babies 2 weeks apart and raised all the little ones side by side. After adopting out most of the piglets (and keeping our favorites), we ended up with 10 wonderful potbelly pigs, all related, and each one special. 5 boys and 5 girls. They included some of Penny and Princess' offspring, their brother, a niece, and one adopted Auntie PP (Polka Dot). One big happy piggy family! In 2017 though, we lost Penny's daughter Petunia when she broke her leg during a fire evacuation. And now to have lost Princess too...it's heartbreaking for us, but it also affects the pigs. Pigs are social herd animals with high intelligence. They have strong emotional connections to each other, and to their humans. We had a talk with them all yesterday to explain about Princess and to reassure them that we are here for them, always. They took it pretty well. They especially liked the part where snacks of apples and oranges were served in honor of their beloved Princess. So now we move forward with our family of 8 potbelly pigs. 5 boys, 3 girls. It's going to be different around here. But when you have pigs, you have love. So we will all be just fine.
