Now more than ever, we need more work and more coverage of events and actions like this. Thank you Josiah Bruny and Music Changing Lives and all of the artists that made this beautiful mural happen and for the commitment to the place and ideals of this Civil Rights Institution in the IE!

Want to make your arts programming more accessible and inclusive, but don’t know where to start? Our free online arts and accessibility showcase, Let's Create Access, can help. This free online meeting will take place on November 19, 2020 from 9 a.m. to noon(PST) on Zoom. Enjoy some inclusive stand-up comedy, learn about making the visual arts accessible through verbal descriptions, and experience verbally described artworks and performance. Learn about the history of the Ame...rican with Disabilities Act (ADA) through an excerpt of the play One Day on the Road to the ADA. You’ll take away insights and resources that will help you ensure that your next arts program is accessible and inclusive for everyone. This online experience was developed by Jennifer Kane, Executive Director of Arts Connection, in collaboration with disability community leaders, artists, and allies. Speakers and participating artists include: Gary Ferrer, Folklorico master, Louise Fryer, author of An Introduction to Audio Description. Dr. Victoria Lewis, documentary theater artist and disability activist (University of Redlands), and Dr. Kate Zankowicz, inclusive arts education practitioner. Spaces are limited, so please register below to secure your spot. The last day to register for this online arts experience is November 5, 2020. This arts and accessibility showcase was made possible with the generous support of The California Arts Council and the National Arts and Disability Center. We look forward to meeting you! Artist Guadalupe Galindo @mexicali922 addresses the unnecessary stigma of being homeless in this, our 3rd piece in the WE ART ONE series. Who by unknown circumstances ended up in the street, Guadalupe writes about her inspiration for bringing to light the importance of empathy and action around housing justice. I drew her a bit sketchy because I wanted to show struggle. ‘I can’t help being homeless’ is a phrase I’ve heard many times while talking to people that are struggl...ing with homelessness. Many of them also struggle with mental illness and drug addiction and therefore they think they’re trapped. We can do so much to help change some of the circumstances that force folks into homeless situations. Right now there are propositions on the ballot in California that will have impacts on housing. Read up on all of these propositions and others. Register to vote. Find election information in multiple languages and other resources by following the link in our bio. #vote #yourvotematters #housingforall #fairhousing #housingjustice #voteyourvoice #voteforothers
