We've recently been alerted to a few online hiring scams targeted towards designers and graphic designers. Please be aware if you are responding to job postings or have received messages from posting your resume or portfolio on legitimate platforms. A FEW WAYS TO SPOT A SCAM: - Typos, misspellings, bad formatting in the correspondence... - Use of a gmail address (and not an official company email address) - Company name, but no official logo on correspondence - Requests to set up new google hangout accounts (or other types of accounts) - Real, reputable design managers being mentioned in correspondence, but their titles are incorrect, emails are not official company emails or you don't get the opportunity to interview with them on video - Many of the scams offer to send you money for new computer equipment for working remotely but then ask you to cover it and be reimbursed/or request you to send money to cover the costs - Exchange of money at any time during the interviewing process: paying fees of any kind to interview isn't legit. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PROTECT YOURSELF: - Ask questions, if they are not being addressed don't trust the correspondence - Schedule video or face to face interviews coupled with a call at a verified phone number (check multiple sources of contact info to make sure they match official phone numbers/email addresses) - Reach out to another hiring manager at the company who has approached you. The scams typically involve mentioning real company names as a front - Reach out to other designers you might already know who works for the company to verify the opportunity - Never send money or give personal information like social security numbers until you've verified the opportunity is real - Report to the FTC Federal Trade Commission: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1 More information visit: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0243-job-scams We know you have enough to worry about with everything else going on. Please be safe out there and report any suspicious activity to protect yourself and others!
There are thousands of decisions Americans will need to make beyond just who becomes president. All 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives, 35 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate, and the office of President of the United States will be contested. Thirteen state and territorial governorships, as well as more than 6,500 state legislative seats, will also be contested. Source: Wikipedia.
