UPDATE: These (2) girls are still with us. They have been given flea & tick medication Dr. Kim has also given them their first set of vaccines including rabies and tapeworm injection! Although they’ve been through a lot they are both very sweet and playful! They’ve been given baths and are currently waiting for their forever families! ATTENTION: Today (12/11/17) a heartless human being decided to leave these two dogs locked in a luggage bag in 80 DEGREE WEATHER on the side of our hospital without informing anyone. As our Dr. was about to throw the luggage in the trash he noticed something moving inside! Inside were two overheated and terrified tiny dogs! Dr. Kim is willing to house these sweet pets for the time being but we are on the hunt now for their forever home. These little girls have obviousl...y been through so much we are asking for assistance from our community to help us get into contact with anyone who is interested in them. To Dr. Kim’s knowledge they are both females between 1-2 years of age. They were both infested with fleas which caused skin irritation which Dr. Kim is in the process of treating in order to get them ready for their future families! We are excited for these two pups futures! Educational Wednesday's: This patient arrived at our hospital @bvah_ with a vaginal discharge along with loss of appetite and vomiting. These are common symptoms of "Pyometra". Pyometra is severe bacterial infection that is associated with middle aged dogs or older females that have never had puppies. Pyometra results from hormonal influences that decrease the normal resistance to infection . As a result, bacteria enters the uterus when the cervix is dilated during the heat period thus resulting in infection. The surgical treatment for Pyometra consists of the removal of both ovaries and the uterus. Postoperative treatment includes antibiotics and intravenous fluid. We will continue to monitor our patient in the upcoming weeks. #dogsurgery #animalhospital #veterinary #whereweloveyourpets
