#MambaForever. To honor Kobe, we’ve compiled a list of 5 little known facts about Kobe. ... 1. Kobe Bryant lived in Italy for much of his childhood, and spoke fluent Italian. He even used it on the court to communicate with many of his teammates. 2. Kobe was the first guard to be drafted straight out of highschool. Bryant made a splash when he was drafted out of Lower Merion High School with the No. 13 overall selection in 1996. 3. Kobe nicknamed himself ‘Black Mamba’ after he watched Quentin Tarantino’s movie entitled Kill Bill where the‘Black Mamba’ was used as a code word for a deadly mission. He chose this nickname because of the snakes speed, agility, and accuracy 4. Kobe's name is one that has honestly become famous because of him, but where did it come from? Kobe's parents opted to give him his legendary name solely because of their fascination with the Japanese steak of the same name. This honestly would turn out to be an amazing decision, as we all have grown to love it. 5. Kobe Bryant is a published author. In 2019 Kobe released the first volume of a children’s fantasy book series, The Wizenards, published through his multimedia content company Granity Studios including his autobiography, The Mamba Mentality: How I Play, in 2018. Most recently, Kobe was working with Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelho, author of the book The Alchemist on a new children’s book aimed at inspiring underprivileged children to overcome adversity through sports. However, soon after Coelho heard of the tragic passing of the basketball great, he deleted the draft they were working on saying that it didn’t make sense to continue without him.
