Greg, a recent veteran client experiencing homelessness, sent a letter to his 1736 FCC case manager to say thanks. I am very excited to inform you that the HUDVASH program has found me a one-bedroom apartment in Huntington Beach. I signed the lease and made my first month’s payment today. The Mercy House provided me with furnishings for the apartment and a brand-new refrigerator. Thank you for being my case manager for the 1736 program. The immediate assistance that you and ...your organization provided for me was amazing. There is no way in the world I could ever repay the financial assistance that 1736 provided by housing me for four months at the beautiful Clementine Hotel & Suites in the City of Anaheim. Everyone working at the Clementine was very nice and always willing to help me when I needed it. Thank you so very much for your kindness and compassion... Thanks to you and staff...I'm NOT still LIVING in MY CAR! Thank You for Everything...YOU ARE MY "HERO! We want to thank Mercy House Living Centers and Clementine Hotel & Suites Anaheim for your continued community partnerships in our mission to end veteran homelessness. #1736FamilyCrisisCenter #SSVF #EndVeteranHomelessness #EveryVeteranDeservesAHome

Meet Nyki. Nyki is our employment/benefit specialist and assists veterans experiencing homelessness obtain employment and/or benefits (i.e., VA benefits or public assistance) in order to increase their income. An increase in income helps to ensure the veteran’s ability to maintain and sustain permanent housing. From the veteran‘s perspective, looking for a job can be quite challenging, especially if he/she has been out of the workforce for a substantial amount of time. The c...hallenges range from putting together a resume to knowing the right things to say during an interview. Nyki’s job is to make sure that the veteran has all the support they need from beginning to end throughout the job searching process and she works with many community partners to assist. Says Nyki, "It often ends with a 'job', but sometimes it ends with 'hope' for a better outcome in the future. Sometimes hope is all you need to start the process of a new journey." #SSVF #1736veteranfamiliesservices #EndVeteranHomelessness #EveryVeteranDeservesAHome See more

Meet Keith. As a Marine Corps Veteran, Keith serves veterans experiencing homelessness as a case manager/housing navigator for 1736 Family Crisis Center. Soon after his departure from active-duty service, Keith began working with agencies that serve veterans experiencing homelessness to aid in their transition from being homeless to ultimately becoming housed. Prior to his current role, Keith served as an outreach specialist for our veteran families programs, spending much of his time on the streets, in shelters, and in homeless encampments, in search of veterans in need of critical resources. Says Keith, "I enjoy collaborating with our community partners to make a veteran's dream of stable permanent housing come true." #SSVF #1736veteranfamiliesservices #EndVeteranHomelessness #EveryVeteranDeservesAHome

Veterans Bill of Rights. We proudly serve our veterans and their families and follow our Veterans Bill of Rights when supporting those homeless and at-risk of homelessness as a demonstration of our dedication and program transparency. During the coronavirus pandemic, our services and staff are considered essential. We’ve adapted how we serve veteran families to ensure they and our staff remain healthy and safe. The pandemic has created increased challenges and dangers faced ...by homeless veterans on the streets during this time. Through the Veterans Affairs Administration's Supportive Service for Veteran Families program, these challenges are being met. Program services have been adapted to provide emergency housing assistance, allowing the most vulnerable, highest-risk veterans and their families to be placed in hotel rooms. Over the next weeks, in honor of Veterans Day, we will share more about these emergency services and how they have impacted the families we have served. #SSVF #1736VeteranFamiliesServices #EndVeteranHomelessness #EveryVeteranDeservesAHome See more

1736 Veteran Families Services is proud to be part of the Orange County Veterans and Military Families Collaborative. The good and vital work that the collaborative continues to do has been recognized in a recent congressional record by U.S. House of Representative, Hon. Harley Rouda. As mentioned in the record, the collaborative was established in 2012 by a small, passionate group of Vietnam War Veterans, who answered yet another call of duty. The collaborative works to ensu...re all veterans have a place to call home by helping them to secure HUD-VASH benefits and by filling gaps for veterans where federal resources are unable to compensate. Let's all salute the crucial work the OCVMFC continues to do for Orange County veterans and military families! #everyveterandeservesahome

When a 911 call for domestic violence is received, a 1736 DART advocate is paired with a specialized trained LAPD officer to respond. The response occurs at the... scene of the crime and may be to a home, a business, or a street corner because, unfortunately, a domestic violence incident can occur anywhere. A recent DART response involved a young mother we were able to connect with in her home once the scene was safe. We found her crying; sitting on the couch in the living room holding her baby. She continued to cry while listening to our advocate explain how we could help her and accepting materials with contact information. A few hours passed and the advocate received a call. The young mother had decided to go into shelter. She and her baby came to the police station and began her intake. Because of safety concerns related to the situation, we carefully selected a place in one of our four confidential shelters where they’d be safe, be able to recover, and where she could start a new life for herself and her child. A few months later, our client came to the police station to thank the advocate for the help during her time of need. It was so wonderful to see her now; no longer a victim, but a survivor who was working on taking her life back and keeping it safe for her child. She shared how wonderful she felt away from the violence and abuse. She was working on her life now. While in shelter she was participating in one-on-one and group therapy sessions and case management services. She felt empowered and was ready to begin looking for a job. The DART (Domestic Abuse Response Team) program is a partnership between the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office, LAPD Headquarters and domestic violence service providers like 1736 Family Crisis Center. Currently our DART advocates work with LAPD Harbor Community Police Station, LAPD Newton Division, LAPD Southwest Community Police Station and LAPD Southwest Community Police Station. During crisis is when victims need help and services most; they may need safe shelter, medical care, or emergency legal services. Our Housing for Veteran Families Program and services have been hard at work helping to provide food and shelter for Veterans and their families in Los Angeles ...and Orange counties. In sharing recent stories, an 81-year old Veteran, who served in the Army from 1961-1963 with an Honorable Discharge, was accepted into the program in December of 2019 after becoming homeless. He had lost his wife months prior and was unable to maintain his apartment due to an inability to cover funeral expenses, medical bills, credit card debt, and a lesser income with the loss of his wife’s contribution. Following enrollment, the Veteran was approved for a new unit in just two weeks and was able to move in the beginning of January. Since then, he has been able to pay off some of his debt and remains incredibly grateful for the assistance from our awesome Veteran Program staff! #TogetherWeCan support our Vets!
