La Peña Cultural Center is on stolen Ohlone land. Here is one excellent way we can support our local indigenous community today and everyday: follow @sogoreatelandtrust and donate to their shellmound project and share! #repost @sogoreatelandtrust If you live in the East Bay you are living on stolen Lisjan Ohlone land. Today, the Ohlone community has no land base. They are not federally recognized and have been politically and economically marginalized. Their traditional terr...itory is now one of the most inflated real estate markets on Turtle Island. Thousands of their ancestors’ bones are locked away in museum basement boxes at local universities. Living here, you are inadvertently benefitting from the genocide waged against the Ohlone people and the theft of their land. Whether you know it or not, however you feel about it, this is an inescapable fact. The civic infrastructure, the economic system, the private development and the consumption of natural resources in our society are all connected to and in different ways built upon the colonial occupation of this land and the violent displacement of the Ohlone. This history extends throughout the continent and much of the world. Shifting resources to Indigenous led visions and work, paying your Shuumi land tax, and protecting all the sacred sites and relatives that are still here is a small but critical way to acknowledge this history and contribute to its healing, to support Indigenous people’s work to create a vibrant future. Shout out to all of our local Indigenous led organizations, projects, and efforts keeping culture and community alive. Tag your local Indigenous led projects to support in comments. No matter who wins the 2020 presidential election we must continue to fight to abolish ice, close the camps, and free them all. Trump has taken the already cruel immigrant policies of the US to new incredibly inhumane levels, including mass sterilization and ethnic cleansing. Biden’s immigration platform, while less openly cruel than Trump’s, represent a return to the Obama-era status quo that saw a then-record number of deportations.... Protests occurring in San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Fransisco. Want to organize an action in your city? Please do and contact us so that we can build for the largest mobilization possible.
