Our Courtyard Walk-Through Communion Service for this Sunday, December 6th, has been cancelled due to the increased spread of Covid 19. We invite you to have some bread and juice or wine ready at home and take communion with us virtually as you tune into this Sunday's online worship service. We will be focusing on an encouraging message from the Prophet Isaiah that will speak to our lives today, and help us find our way through this pandemic. May the peace of Christ sustain you, comfort you and give you great courage!

This is Allene's Advent Devotion from November 30th. In case you haven't had a chance to pick up your advent devotional book yet, you will find this to be a meaningful story - then watch the song, "Old Gene" that was written to go with the story of this inspiring man. Monday, November 30 Allene Dering Psalm 79; Micah 4: 6-13; Revelations: 15:1-8... Matthew 25:40 I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ This is a Christmas Story about a homeless man who attended the PATH Winter Shelter for several years. This man’s name was Gene, and he had lived in Red Bluff most, if not all, of his life. Gene was a person who could have been hard to love as he reeked of alcohol and urine most of the time. He often arrived at the shelter with urine soaked trousers. We usually had a change of clothes for him. But he was also a very kind and generous man, almost to a fault. Some of the other homeless folk often took advantage of him. They knew when his Social Security check came each month, so they would get him drunk until he’d pass out, then take most of his money. He’d complain about it, but in a few days he’d be back to his old cheerful self. One Christmas Eve, at the shelter, really stands out in my memory. Someone had given all the guests at the shelter a $5 gift card for Walmart. The guests were really excited about this gift. There was a couple at the shelter that night. They had two small children with them. Gene quietly walked over to me, handed me his gift card, and said, Please give this to the family. They can use it far more than I can. I thought, how selfless and generous that was. Then he said to the family, If you had a car, would you have family you could go to for Christmas? They said yes, they would love to go to their family. At that he handed them the keys to his car, and told them to take it for a couple of days and visit their family. (How many of us would do that?) Well, Gene never saw those people again, nor his car. He grumbled about it for a few days. Then never spoke of it again. Gene was truly one of the least that Christ talked about, yet he gave to the least. Pam Klein wrote a song about him that will be posted on our church’s Facebook page today, November 30th! I hope you will listen! Lord, help us to see the needs of the least, and be willing to offer them what we are able. Amen

This is the song that corresponds with Allene's Advent Devotion, read on November 30th, and also posted on this Facebook page. Read Allene's devotion for a deeper understanding of "old Gene."
