Dr. Barbara Ferrer has over 30 years of professional experience as a philanthropic strategist, educational leader, researcher, community advocate, and public health director. Dr. Ferrer has a history of using public health as a tool for advocating for social justice. Meet our second honoree for Visionaries Awards, Nichol Whiteman, Chief Executive Officer of Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF). Under Nichol’s leadership, LADF has operated through the lens of social justice, seeking to level the playing field by investing in underserved communities. The Foundation supports more than 100 nonprofits, serves over 10,000 youth, and during the pandemic, provided meals and donations to people in need. It’s hard to believe that just about a year ago, we were having our final wrap and celebrating the graduation of Leadership L.A. 2019! Even though times have changed, we’ve enjoyed continuing our programming virtually this year, and look forward to when we can celebrate all the 2020-2021 cohorts in person.

Introducing our first Visionaries Awards honoree, Charlene Thomas! Charlene is the Chief Human Resources Officer at UPS and an alum of our Leadership L.A. program. Charlene has spearheaded HR initiatives at UPS to serve more than 528,000 employees worldwide. She also has a long history of serving her community by serving on the boards of Big Brothers and Sisters of Middle Tennessee, Orangewood Foundation in Orange County, CA, and on the executive board for Habitat for Humanity.
