The NAACP in conjunction with community members, collaborated to address the issue of the high rate of suspensions of African American students within the Oroville Unified High School, Middle School and Elementary School Districts. In February of 2018 this issue was brought to our attention by reports that were disseminated by concerned educators. Deputy staff members of the Attorney General's office from the SF, Sacramento and Oakland area had several sit down meetings in O...roville with members of the NAACP Butte County Local Chapter 1029, the AAFCC, community leaders and parents to investigate the issues surrounding the high suspension rates among Black students in the districts. We are very pleased with the Attorney General of the State of California's findings that validate the long held belief and concerns of the Black community on how our young people have been disproportionately suspended in comparison to other racial groups. The community leadership is looking forward to working with educational officials to assure that the recommendations by the Attorney General's office are adhered to and implemented in a timely manner. NAACP Acting President, Janet Goodson.
