Yesterday, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to James Allison and Tasuku Honjo for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation." And so, immuno-oncology was born. This pioneering work showed that the power of the immune system to eliminate foreign elements from the body is not limited to infectious agents - it can identify and eliminate cancer. However, the challenging task of testing the immuno-oncology agents impedes th...e progress of brining these therapeutics to patients. The culprit is the lack of model systems integrating the human tumors with the human immune components. Animal models, where human cancer cells are transplanted into mice, lack the human immune system required for successful evaluation of immuno-oncology agents, and the standard cell culture models lack the elements of the immune system all together. At zPREDICTA we develop 3D patient-derived cell culture models, all-human organ-specific systems where cellular and extracellular elements of tumor microenvironment are reconstructed in vitro. These models enable accurate testing of the next-generation anti-cancer drugs driving the development of successful treatments for every patient. #New3D #biologyreconstructed #immunotherapy
