SYRCL has adopted a highway on one of the most beautiful stretches of I-80 near Lake Spaulding. This site sees a lot of trash from the freeway that eventually finds its way to the river. We are looking for 10 volunteers to help us with this Cleanup on Wednesday June 30th from 9am-12pm. Volunteers must be 16 years old or older for this site. Yuba lovers are a diverse group of people who show their love in different ways. Some volunteer to be River Ambassadors or participate in our annual Cleanup. Some share their amazing photography. Others create beautiful books on river etiquette (Chula Gemignani). Still others make engaging posters (@wyatthersey & @wendyvanwagner). What do you like to do to show your love for the Yuba?

On the morning of Nov. 8, 2018, a devastating firestorm engulfed the picturesque city of Paradise, California. By the time the Camp Fire was extinguished, it had killed 85 people, displaced 50,000 residents and destroyed 95% of local structures. It was the deadliest U.S. fire in 100 years and the worst ever in California’s history. "Rebuilding Paradise", from Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard, is a moving story of resilience in the face of tragedy, as a community r...avaged by disaster comes together to recover what was lost and begin the important task of rebuilding. Watch it as part of the Resilient by Nature 1 session: https://watch.eventive.org/ws/play/5f7ba4a336482300521663f9 See the trailer: https://youtu.be/OcyPBHPk_VM National Geographic Documentary Films @ImagineDocs @ImagineEntertainment Ron Howard Brian Grazer #WildAndScenicFilmFestival #WhereActivismGetsInspired #CaliforniaWildfire #Wildfire #Wildfires #CampFire #ParadiseCA #RebuildingParadise

#WhatInTheWatershed Mistletoe is an obligate stem hemiparasitic plant. Let's break down the science jargon: "Obligate" indicates that the plant requires a host to survive, in this case an oak tree. "Stem" refers to the part of the host plant the mistletoe parasitizes, or is found on. "Hemiparasitic" indicates that the mistletoe only derives part of it's nutrients from the host plant and makes the rest of it from photosynthesis. We hope the next time you see mistletoe you remember this vocabulary lesson! #yuba #yubariver #californianativeplants #flora #syrcl #sierra #watershed #nevadacounty #yubawatershed

Rise Beyond Gold is about a proposal to re-open a relic gold mine in Nevada County, CA. The community faces a foreign corporation that would take the gold from under their property and leave a toxic legacy. This film raises bigger questions for the world at large. Why do we desire gold; and ultimately, is it worth it? See it on January 14 and 25 during the 19th annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival.
