End of Year Fundraiser - Making Science Relevant - Wearing Masks
We are pleased to share the success of our science program alumni, Elisha Johnston! Elisha Johnston participated in several YSC classes as both an elementary and middle school student, cultivating his passion for science. Currently, he is a senior at Joseph Lister High School for Biomedical Sciences and Technology and has received multiple science awards, including the California State Science and Engineering Fair Project of the Year. He was also selected to participate in th...e International Science and Engineering Fair as a Sophomore and Junior in High School and was recently selected to participate in the 2020 BioGENEius competition. A few weeks ago, he published his first article discussing his research in cartilage regeneration for osteoarthritis in a PubMed-indexed journal. Check it out in the link below: https://jeo-esska.springeropen.com//10./s40634-020-00312-z We are so proud of all of Elisha's accomplishments and look forward to seeing all that he accomplishes in the years to come.
Proud to announce that YSC Executive Director Stan Liu was officially sworn in as the newest member of the Diamond Bar City Council on December 1st! Swearing Stan in with the oath of office was his daughters Megan on the left and Kaitlin in an online Zoom ceremony. Congratulations, Stan!
Youth Science Center is grateful for the outpouring of your Giving Tuesday support which helped us raise $5,100! As this special day comes to a close, we want to share one final note on the nature of generosity... It doesn’t have to end today! Whether generosity of spirit, generosity of compassion, or generosity of philanthropic support, giving freely of it supports positive change. Youth Science Center is grateful for one-time or sustaining donations over time if you feel compelled to support enriched S.T.E.M. education in our local community. Thank you for all you do to help make our work possible! https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/MakeDonation.aspx
It's Giving Tuesday, an international day of generosity and kindness! It’s also a day when nonprofits raise money that funds their programs and services. And this year, that funding is needed more than ever. We know there are so many important causes to support. If you are able, we hope you will consider supporting Youth Science Center. Your gifts allow us to serve our students, parents, educators, and everyone else who makes up the special Youth Science Center community. https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/MakeDonation.aspx
We are thrilled to announce that Monze Lerma was awarded the Gold tier of the President's Volunteer Service Award on November 13 for her time helping students in our YSC summer program. She was a student in the YSC summer classes starting in 2008 through 2014. Monze is a junior at Wilson High School, where she is involved in varsity tennis, Aria (the highest level of Wilson choir), and "Music Beats the Heart" (a Wilson music club that works with seniors) as vice president. Her mom Maria Lerma said that YSC has made a big difference in her life. Our best wishes to Monze for her future endeavors!
Thanks to your generosity, we are more than halfway to our Giving Tuesday goal! We have just $3,150 left to raise to get there. Can you help us? Perhaps on this Black Friday, you might consider a great, non-traditional holiday gift for friends and family. What about a charitable donation to the Youth Science Center in his, her, and/or their names? Not only is it a gift to your friend or family member, it's also a gift to the children who will receive STEM enrichment thanks to your donation! https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/MakeDonation.aspx
Happy Thanksgiving to our friends and supporters! We want to take a moment and offer a simple, Thank You for your continued support as we navigate the challenges of the pandemic and its deep impact on education. Even though students are not physically in school, they are now distance learning, which often requires diligence and lots of support to make sure they are mastering course curriculum. Our virtual classes and tutoring easily provide that platform. And your support ...helps make them possible! We have raised $3,850 to date in this year's Giving Tuesday campaign. We are just $4,150 away from our goal. Can you help us reach $8,000? Please follow the link below to give if you can. You will help us equip the next generation of scientists, engineers, doctors, and innovators with the knowledge and skills necessary to address society and the planet’s most pressing issues. Never has the need for educated, compassionate personnel in these fields been clearer than it is now. Thank you in advance for your generosity, and keep watching for funding updates as we reach the pinnacle of our campaign, Giving Tuesday, December 1st! https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/MakeDonation.aspx
Since the pandemic began, Youth Science Center has offered more than 100 Zoom-based classes! They are taught by experts in the field, limited to 16 students or fewer, and enable personal interaction among students and instructors. Recent classes have covered computer programming, circuitry, CAD, HTML, math, web design and more! When it is safe to do so, we will joyfully return to the classroom. In the meantime, being able to offer virtual instruction bolsters student connection and achievement during an otherwise challenging time. With less than two weeks until Giving Tuesday, we hope you will consider supporting Youth Science Center's work. Follow the link below to give if you can. And with many thanks, stay tuned for more Giving Tuesday updates! https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/MakeDonation.aspx
