AYF Youth Corps 30.10.2020

During the last decade, Proshyan a large village outside of Yerevan has become a home for our program. During our camps we have relied on the local volunteers to help with registration and assistance with our program. These volunteers quickly became dear friends. A few days ago we were devastated to learn that 17 ungers from the village, many of whom had visited or helped with our camp lost their lives while protecting our homeland. Many of these men, were members of the loc...al ARF chapter. They were always ready to go above and beyond to make sure the camp went well and that participants of our program were safe and comfortable. They would invite us to their homes, sing with us, exchange ideas with us, and most importantly- they would share stories about their friends and family members who were lost during the last Artsakh war. We are thankful to have spent time with them, learned from them, sang with them. We promise to tell our future campers about their great sacrifice. #ArtsakhStrong #stopazerbaijansaggression #stopaliyev #peaceforartsakh

In 2008, the AYF Youth Corps program shifted from rebuilding destroyed buildings to operating a summer day camp for underprivileged youth in Gyumri, Armenia’s second largest city. With the establishment of the camp, Youth Corps volunteers were able to provide hundreds of children with an unforgettable and productive summer. Since 2011, the program expanded from one location to more than 6, spanning across Armenia and Artsakh.

The AYF Youth Corps program provides a unique opportunity for Armenian youth in the Diaspora to establish and strengthen ties with the homeland. The program began in 1994 after a cease-fire agreement was signed, ending the violence in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Between 1994-2007 the AYF sent Youth Corps volunteers to Artsakh to help rebuild many of the war-torn villages in our newly liberated lands.
