Little plastic labels on fruits and vegetables might seem harmless, but they may cause some big problems at composting facilities and wastewater treatment plant...s. When these labels are stuck to food scraps in your compost cart, they do not degrade at compost facilities like the rest of the material. The stickers ball up and pass through the facility sifters, ending up in finished compost that is then spread over the ground, depositing plastic litter on agricultural fields, parks, and wherever else compost is used. Fruit labels washed down the sink or garbage disposal, such as when you are cleaning fruit, can build up to clog sewer pipes. Wastewater treatment facilities are also not equipped to deal with these little pieces of plastic; they clog filter screens and end up in our waterways. Please help us prevent pollution and litter by removing plastic labels from your fruits and vegetables before washing and peeling them. These labels should be placed directly in the trash. Perfect timing over Memorial Day Weekend, to use up your existing propane cylinder. Hold onto it until June 12th, then bring it in and swap it for a FULL refillable one. Limit of 1 per household, 8-12 or while supplies last.

Always pick up pet waste, seal it in a bag, and put it in the trash bin. Pet waste contains harmful bacteria that can kill fish and make animals and humans sick. Dog and cat waste should never go in the organics cart or in on-street yard material piles (even if it’s bagged).

While we don't know when the Big Blue Barn will be able to open for a Thrift Store event, where we can invite shoppers to come explore the shelves of bargains... we are working to get our online sales through Facebook Marketplace running again. You can visit the link in the BBB's post to see the items that are currently listed as active. We encourage you to like the Big Blue Barn page and friend our Garrett Robert Travis profile to keep connected with all things Thrift Store.

Our repurposed shed is closed. This is the container where free reusable household products are offered, which is normally open the same days/hours as our Household Hazardous Waste collection. Currently, there is not a planned time for the reopening of this program. Inviting the public to come shop for free reusable products is not considered an essential service. Check back here for updates, as we will be trying to spread the word when we're able to resume this valuable program. Products continue to be diverted, as space allows. Should be lots of great stuff to give away when the doors do open. We hope to see you back soon.

No Thrift Store event in May. Sorry everyone. We're looking ahead and proposing a strategy for how we can offer online / curbside sales once Phase 2 rolls out. We'll keep you posted as program details are approved.

Helping spread the word about the great organization. Even better than recycling that old bicycle you have hanging around, is fixing it up and putting it to use or find it a new home. Also a good resource if you're looking to buy some affordable transportation... pedal style.
