Fad diets claim that their way is the only way to lose weight. But that is completely false. Most important fact of losing weight is being in a relative calorie deficit. ... Ideally this is 15-25% of daily energy expenditure. The best way to know if you’re in a deficit is to track food and body weight daily. If your average weight for the week goes down, then you’re in a deficit. If your average weight for the week stays the same, then you’re at maintenance. If your average weight for the week goes up, then you’re in a surplus. Beyond knowing how much you are eating any fad diet can put you in a deficit, maintenance, or surplus. Tracking is the difference maker with weight loss. Know how much and what you put into your mouth determines results.

Monday’s can have this feeling for many dieters. You’re on point all week but then the weekend happens. The wheels fall off and weight goes up. This is a cycle that happens to far too many dieters that leads to chronic dieting and weight GAIN. ... By eating in a deficit all week you lower metabolism and when the over eating happens the excess calories start to stick to you like glue. Many times I see this as 900-1000calories Monday through Thursday or Friday and some amount of excess all weekend.
