As you consider your Giving Tuesday options, take a moment to recall your magical trip to Outdoor Education. Once you observe the smile the memory creates, help us to put smiles on some local kids faces. https://shadycreekoef.org/donation-form/ We are still here and getting kids to a virtual week this year, with some in person options built into Spring, if Covid allows.
Happy Friday all! This week we are providing photos that showcase the structures, locations and views of Woodleaf. In a few weeks, we will cover the move to the program's current Shady Creek location and you will be able to make note of the environmental differences between the two campuses. This program has lived and learned in various locations and ecosystems in its time, and with that growth, we have been able to establish a historically well-rounded Outdoor Education experience!
The winter season is fast approaching, which means we must soon say temporary good-byes to some of our favorite plant species as they prepare for colder weather. The Shady Creek campus is home to a variety of native plants, and with seasonal changes on the brain today, we wanted to take some time to appreciate some of them! The photos below hint at one of the main reasons students fall in love with Shady Creek before even stepping off the bus: the campus isn't short of biodiversity and is full of beauty.
Happy Halloween to all of you from the Shady Creek Outdoor Education Foundation! Today we not only want to celebrate Halloween, but also take some time to look at Shady Creek's history. Both of these photos, despite being taken 10+ years apart, showcase a program legend who has been a member of the team since Woodleaf. The name of this legend is Lou--Lou the Bat--and he is one cool nocturnal animal! Over the years, the naturalists have all loved Lou so much, they dress up as him to teach students about his species. Most students are scared of bats at first, but Lou shows them--just as Halloween does--that even the things that scare us can also be fun!
Over the past several weeks many posts of decades past students, now parents and grandparents have been shared. Did any of you see pics of yourselves, friends, or family? Local kids have been participating in Outdoor ED at Shady Creek as well as Woodleaf , Butte Meadows, etc. for 60 years... Send us your favorite pics and/or your story.
Some groundbreaking pics for the new Shade Structure over the Dow Lewis Amphitheatre. Started then stopped to mitigate some issues, started again and ready for posts. This will be great protection for the kids when they need to gather for outdoor activities at Shady Creek . It will make the amphitheater so much more versatile!
