Art from Mrs. Hopkins: This week in art we started to explore our winter unit. In TK/K, we learned a penguin dance and created a mixed media collage of our winter penguins using shapes and various layers to show our form. In 1st grade, we learned how to build a snowman with a snowman freeze dance. We looked at what positive and negative space is in art by cutting out our snowmen landscape shapes. We learned how to glue them to create a shadow in our pr...ojects. In 2nd grade, we learned about the composer Tchaikovsky. We listened to his Waltz of the Snowflakes and discussed how the instruments created a feeling of falling snow. We used our snow inspiration to create designs for our winter hat and gloves in our winter self-portraits. In 3rd grade, we also looked at the Waltz of the Snowflakes. We watched a part of The Nutcracker and discussed how the music and dancing helped to tell the story of the snow without words. We created sweaters for our bears using design elements. We created fur for our bears by using only line to show texture. In 4th grade, we investigated the work of Tchaikovsky and discussed how music can give the piece a certain feel without words. We used these ideas to create magical feeling Evergreen collage tree forests. In 5th grade, we talked about how music can use dynamics to give the listener the impression something is exciting or important by how loud and soft the piece may be. We also learned how we can create light through mixed media art. December 14 - 18, 2020 - Winter Spirit Week. The top three Team Lone Tree classes who have most spirit for the week will receive incentives when we return in January. Teachers will keep spirit count for the week - nothing to email in for our school site.

Hello All, With the impending stay at home order there have been a number of questions regarding school. The State has determined that if you are in school you... can remain in school under the State's Stay at Home Order. The Wheatland School District will continue to have Preschool & TK - 5th grade on our school sites for their schooling. We have two weeks until Winter Break and plan to continue to teach our students for these next two weeks just like they are currently being taught (i.e Preschool 8:30am to 11:30am Monday to Friday, TK - 5th grade is Distance Learning on Mondays and AM/PM Hybrid Tuesday - Friday, 6th - 8th grade will remain on Distance Learning). Winter break is from December 21, 2020 through January 3, 2021. We plan to return to school on January 4, 2021 with the understanding the state may continue to tighten down the restrictions. Teammates of the Week opened December with positive energy, can-do work ethic and shining attitudes. Our students are making hybrid learning all that it can be! We're so proud of our team and all of our students. We applaud these amazing students who take the honors this week. GO TEAM!
