WRECO 07.07.2021

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Randall Road Debris Basin was held on May 4th in Montecito, Santa Barbara County. The project is a new 8-acre basin to be constructed along San Ysidro Creek in an area that saw severe debris deposition and resulted in the loss of life and property after the catastrophic debris flow that ensued after the 2018 Thomas Fire. WRECO worked with the Santa Barbara County Flood Control and Water Conservation District to design the basin to capture large debris-like boulders and tree trunks, and reduce water elevation and velocity for large storm events while maintaining a natural sedimentation transport process during smaller storm events. The project was able to progress to construction in 3 years thanks to the remarkable support from the community and the tireless work of the District and our design team.

As part of Parsons’ team, WRECO was involved in the Alameda County Transportation Commission’s Interstate (I-) 80 Gilman Street Interchange Project. The project identified access, safety, and operational improvements for traffic, pedestrian, and bicycle operations at the I-80/Gilman Street interchange in the City of Berkeley. WRECO was responsible for the Drainage Impact Study, Stormwater Data Report, Location Hydraulic Study, Water Quality Assessment Report, and Natural Environment Study during the environmental phase. For the design phase, WRECO prepared the Drainage Report, Stormwater Data Report, and drainage, stormwater treatment, and trash capture plans, specifications, and estimate (PS&E). We are proud to have assisted in this important project for the community.

For Cinco De Mayo, WRECO staff members, Erica Cruz and Carolina Avelar, gave the WRECO team a presentation on the history of the holiday and led us in a few games of Loteria (Mexican Bingo). Together we strengthened our Spanish vocabulary over some delicious micheladas! #cincodemayo #loteria
