Safety Tips for Pedestrians: Walk on a sidewalk or path. If neither is available, walk facing traffic and as far from cars as possible. Cross streets at mar...ked crosswalks or intersections whenever possible; this is where drivers expect pedestrians. If neither is an option, locate a well-lit area, wait for a gap in traffic that allows you enough time to cross safely, and continue to watch for traffic as you cross. Be alert. Walkers wearing headphones or using a cell phone might not hear a car horn or could miss a traffic signal at a crosswalk. Did you know: Trains need at least 18 football fields of track to reach a complete stop. 7 Simple Steps for Safely Navigating Railroad Crossings 1. Stop, look b...oth ways, and listen. Remember that trains always have the right of way. 2. Make sure you have room to get across. Once you enter the crossing, keep moving. 3. Stop 15’ away from flashing red lights, lowered gates, a signaling flagman or a stop sign. 4. Never try to drive around a lowering gate, never ignore signals, and always use caution. 5. Before you begin to cross, wait for gates to fully rise and for all lights to stop flashing. 6. Never assume that there is only one train coming from a single direction. 7. If your car stalls in a crossing, get out of there and call the number on the sign, or 911. Did you know: October 7th was National Walk to School Day Some schools are open, and students can walk to school to receive their educational material or pick u...p lunch and snack distributions. In other places, the school trip might just be to the living room. Regardless, communities across the country remain committed to participating in this year’s Walk to School Day for the same reasons as always, with physical activity, safety, and social connectedness rising to the top. Let us take the time to remind families and motorists who must drive to follow the posted speed limit and eliminate all distractions especially on school days and during school hours. It is very important to obey all work zone signs, personnel, and pavement markings. Safety Cues to Watch for in Work Zones: Orange Work Zone Signs - Communicate... to both drivers and pedestrians what is going on and how to travel safely through the work zone. It can also indicate that a sidewalk is closed and that a detour must be taken. Pavement Markings - Painted or taped lines on the pavement delineate vehicle travel lanes and can also indicate pedestrian paths. THE KEY TO SAFETY IS TO BE ALERT AND NOT MISS THE SAFETY CUES! For more information on pedestrian and bicycle safety please visit https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/ped_bike/ Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Hello BMXers... While the city of Fresno has lifted the shelter in place, the Governor’s stay at home remains. We are still following the States and CDC guidelines and will make adjustments to our operations in compliance and within the guidance of the State/County following the prescribed stages. We are aware of tracks opening in the state and those tracks are ran by private groups on volunteer bases. The BMX Program at Woodward Park is a city program ran by city employees. The PARCS Department has not been given permission to reopen its recreation programs. We ask to please be patient we will open as soon as we are given the green light. Its also important to respect the facility and not to Trespass into the park when the track is closed... Thank you!
