#DidYouKnow home water heaters take up about 17% of your home's total energy usage, which is more than all other household appliances combined, according to the... Department of Energy. Without proper maintenance, the energy cost of your water heater can go up even more, and your water heater can even become a safety hazard. Follow these easy tips to help keep your water heater in great condition, lower energy bills, and stay safe. 1. Prevent heat loss and protect your water heater by insulating it with extra thick insulation. This will keep water hot for longer, lowering energy costs. 2. Setting the temperature of your water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit slows mineral buildup and corrosion in water heater and pipes, while lowering risk of scalding which can happen at higher temperatures. 3. Reduce risk of fire by keeping combustible or flammable material at least 18 away from your water heater. 4. Ensure your water heater is the correct size for your home. Either too big or too small can result in a loss of efficiency and make it a safety risk. 5. Make sure you have a drip pan connected to a drain pipe underneath your water heater to help avoid water damage if a leak occurs. Want to learn more about your water heater or other home appliances? #DidYouKnow that due to lockdown and people staying at home, there has been an increase in pet adoptions. Pet foster applications are up as much as 200% in some... areas. Having a pet at home can help reduce anxiety. It is important to pet-proof your home to create a safe environment for your pet and also prevent your home from damage. 1. Declutter your home and move anything that might look like a chew toy out of your pet's reach. 2. Check doors and windows to make sure they latch securely to reduce risk of your pet getting out. 3. Store food, medicine, and chemicals in non-accessible areas, and consider adding childproof latches to easy-to-reach cabinets. 4. Keep your new pet contained in a play pen and train gradually to avoid damage to your furniture/belongings. 5. Move any poisonous house plants outside and check with your vet if you are not sure which plants are safe or not. Follow our Pet Home Maintenance Series this week for more tips to pet-proof your home and mitigate potential damage. #homemaintenance #petproofing

#DidYouKnow there are currently more than 180,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the world, with over 4,000 in the U.S., according to the World He...alth Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath, body aches, and sore throat. This disease can be particularly fatal for elderly, and those with heart, lung, and other medical conditions. It is important for everyone to take precautions to help protect themselves and those around you. 1. Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 secondsbetween fingers, under nails and back and front of hands. 2. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. 3. Create more self-awareness to avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth. 4. Cover a cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If no tissue, sneeze or cough into elbow, not hands. 5. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe. 6. Keep yourself hydrated and rested. 7. If you have to go out, wear gloves, avoid populated areas, and shower as soon as you return home. 8. Clean all high-tough areas every day, including doorknobs, faucets, and food-prep areas. Follow our Home Sanitization Series this week to learn more about steps you can take to keep your home clean and protect your family against germs. #healthtips #COVID19SanitationTips #coronavirustips
