Looks like we have another horrible oil spill off the California coast, in San Diego. This footage is of a pod of dolphins swimming through a 50 mile oil slick. Gone Whale Watching San Diego’s Domenic Biagini shot this footage on 6/19/21.
Reforesting and restoring degraded lands in both tropical and temperate regions along with better forest management and tree cropping on agricultural lands could get us theoretically to 140 GtC (gigatonnes of carbon). But by rewilding -- reintroducing keystone species in these regions -- significantly more carbon could be removed.
"Before 1800, several million acres burned every year in California due to both Indigenous burning and lightning-caused fires, far more than even the worst wildfire years today. Tribes used low-grade fires to shape the landscape, encouraging certain plants to grow both for tribal use and to attract game."
Great article about the challenges faced by those trying to save the less famous endangered species. They're all one of a kind, fascinating for their own reasons, and important to save. Let's spread the love!
Team working with the California Academy of Science found the Somali Sengi, previously thought to be extinct.
The fields station in Kelle, Niger withstood a strong windstorm with windspeeds of +65mph (104 km/h). The structure for the solar panels was designed to conservatively withstand much higher winds. The team wanted to prepare for hurricane-force winds to avoid the system from lifting off. Despite the damage the system maintained, it will be repaired by the local team and our weather system is intact. Added photos in the comment section as they won't load in the post.
Check out the new system going in at the Cheetah Conservation Botswana Education Centre in Ghanzi. Thanks to our partners at SimpliPhi Power, Inc. and OutBack Power for donating the equipment so CCB can go completely green!
Shedding light on the American conservation movement's history in racism and eugenics, the history left out of our national parks and textbooks.
