*SOUND WARNING* The Bay Area has been hit with a high wind advisory. Even here, strong gusts were clocked at around 50+ mph. We have been working hard to batten down the hatches and secure everything we can to ensure our animals comfort and safety.

It's a #MeowMonday here at Wildmind. SAVANNAH, the african serval, is enjoying the sunshine and a new toy that was purchased off of our Amazon wishlist.

Our #SundaySpotlight today is MAYA, the coendou. She came to us from a less than ideal situation. We were told she was very comfortable around people, but when she arrived, we quickly discovered that wasn't true. We realized the facility she came from didn't tell us the real story. It turned out that MAYA spent the first part of her life in the grooming area in the back of a pet store. She was likely overwhelmed by all the noises surrounding her and had very limited interactions with people. Because of this, she was never confident enough to become an outreach ambassador. We've worked hard over the years to gain her trust and build a relationship with her. She has been with us for over 20 years- making her far older than the average coendou- and we're committed to offering her a loving forever home here at Wildmind.

We give our animals all kinds of different enrichment to keep their minds and bodies healthy and engaged. They get toys, puzzle feeders, scents, play structures, etc. but sometimes the best enrichment is the simplest- a good ol’ pile of dirt!

Purred like a kitten...a loud kitten but a welcomed sound. Power is now restored after it was turned off Sunday night due to forecasted extreme winds. It was the first rolling blackout/planned outrage of this year...and they were extreme!! We were SO grateful that we had the new generators. We truly appreciate those who donated last year towards the cost of purchasing several generators, helping us to keep the animals cozy while their food stayed cold or frozen, as needed. CALYPSO- the osprey- always does a very thorough job of making confetti with his enrichment! CALYPSO sustained permanent wing damage as a very young bird so he is unable to fish for food or stay safe in the wild. The wildlife rescue facility reached out to us and we became his forever home.
