Shout-out to our Oiled Wildlife Care Network team for helping this snowy plover! Via OWCN: We received a request for assistance from Point Blue Conservation Science and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service regarding a snowy plover with twine wrapped around both of its legs that kept evading capture. OWCN veterinarian Dr. Duane Tom and response specialist Wendy Massey mobilized to Pescadero where they successfully helped capture the plover. Upon examination, Dr. Tom noted that the... twine was wound tightly just above both metatarsal-phalangeal joints and first digits and more loosely around the other digits. They removed the twine and inspected the digits, which were swollen but all still perfused, therefore able to be released back into its flock. : Point Blue Conservation Science
