On the first day of the new Congress this week, members of the U.S. House reintroduced a bill that would end the import, export, and sale of wild animals for human consumption in the U.S. The legislation would also work toward shutting down wildlife markets globally. Officially known as H.R.8433, the bill would prohibit importing, exporting, purchasing, or selling live wild animals in the United States for human consumption as food or medicine.1 In addition, it calls for working with other nations toward a worldwide ban on commercial wildlife markets and an end to wildlife trafficking. https://www.treehugger.com/lawmakers-work-end-wildlife-mark
There's no doubt that tackling the climate crisis will require drastic action on a global scale. But there are also some personal changes you can make to curb your carbon footprint in the new year. https://www.ecowatch.com/eco-friendly-personal-steps-2021-2
2020 was a year filled with unparalleled challenges. As a society, we've had to adapt and develop new ways of working, learning, and living. Despite all this, WildAid continues to have a global impact thanks to your partnership. We launched new campaigns throughout Asia and Africa, advocated for new wildlife protections in China and Vietnam, hosted a series of educational webinars accessible to all, and more. Watch our video to learn more about the impact we achieved in 2020.... Although 2020 is coming to a close, the challenges we faced this year including COVID19 pandemic, urban bushmeat consumption, and the climate crisis, will continue into 2021. We need your support more than ever. Please consider donating today to help us continue this important work. www.wildaid.org/donate
WildAid in the wild, Uganda edition! We’re working with Uganda Wildlife Authority to spread the word that wildlife crime in Uganda now carries harsh penalties, and that wild animals are better off in the wild. Where have you seen our billboards? #UgandaWildlifeAct #donteatbuytrade
One year since the first cluster of Covid-19 cases was linked to a market selling wild animals, the origin of the pandemic remains a mystery. China’s legislature, the National People’s Congress, moved quickly to ban the trade and consumption of wild animals. It also stepped up revisions of wildlife protection laws. In October, a draft published online for public comment included fines between 2,000 yuan (US$300) and 10,000 yuan (US$1,500) for eating wild animals. But will this be enough? https://sg.news.yahoo.com/game-over-china-wildlife-food-074
