Why AVETMISS is essential to your RTO

Most of us in VET land probably don’t give too much thought to AVETMISS data because it isn’t something that we all deal with day in and day out.  But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t!

AVETMISS is the standard by which all RTOs need to make sure their data collection complies. In simple terms, the data that goes into your student management system is collated and collected in line with the AVETMISS guidelines. More info on AVETMISS here.

AVETMISS data is integral for every aspect of our industry. The Government uses it to plan and report on training activity, allocate funding and other high level planning needs at state and federal level.

But the AVETMISS data your RTO collects can be used for so much at a local level, too!  Here are just some things you can identify from your AVETMISS data…

  • Your client demographics
  • Understand your enrolment numbers
  • Understand completion rates
  • Dissect your funding sources

Your student management system should be handling your AVETMISS compliance for you, enforcing rules on the data you enter, but it doesn’t hurt to make sure you have checked it for yourself. You can use the fact sheets at the above link to do this.

And don’t forget it’s not just the data and quality team that need to worry about the data your RTO collects. AVETMISS data collection starts at enrolment and flows through every process in your RTO.

It’s a big job and everyone needs to be across the requirements for AVETMISS.

The good news is that you don’t have to go it alone when it comes to data compliance. In our next newsflash we will share with you some ways to network and make sure you are prepared for your end of year data submission.

To get started with looking at data compliance, why not join us for our free webinar next Wednesday the 30th September for valuable insights into the recent changes to the Victorian Training Guarantee funding contract and the implications it will have on your data reporting?
