A good time to remember Santa's Village

This is a fascinating article about Casalegno's mountain grocery store located at the fork of Soquel San Jose Road and Laurel Glen Road. The Casalegno family who built the store in 1929, originally owned a lot of acreage in the area.

Memories from years ago! Yes, we remember the flume. We would drive on 17 and look over at teenagers walking in the flume. As time went on, the flume was disintegrating and accidents caused the removal of the remains.

Our latest paper shows how much more energy pumas need when they are near residential areas. Pumas move a lot more in developed parts of the Santa Cruz Mountain...s, increasing how much they need to eat. This fits in with some of our previous work showing that pumas move farther from kill sites and kill more in developed areas. The paper is open access and freely available to the public!
