If you heard a loud tonight, it was an electrical transformer that blew up just outside the city limits (reported by Sheriffs). We received additional reports of loud explosions. Officers checked areas, contacted construction crews... Nothing seen, no damage, heard only in the area. Possibly fireworks from a travelling vehicle.

A state implemented regional "Stay at Home" order impacting L.A. and surrounding counties is now in effect and is expected to last at least three weeks. With more people expected to be at home during this order, we are suspending street sweeping enforcement citywide effective 12-7-20 until further notice. Street sweeping will still take place. We are concerned about the health and wellness of our first responders as well as our community. As with the previous order, we have ...asked our employees and we are asking our community to continue practicing all recommended Coronavirus protective measures. The specifics of the new regional order are available here: https://www.gov.ca.gov//12.3.20-Stay-at-Home-Order-ICU-Sce Since police resources are limited and already tasked with significant workload involving emergencies and priority calls response, we will not be generally sending police officers to calls that solely address the use of masks or small gatherings. We also will not conduct checkpoints or stop residents/vehicles to verify their reason for being outdoors. The order does provide various exemptions for "religious and political expression gatherings", essential employees, people with medical conditions, and it allows members of the same household to leave their residence at anytime.

On this day in 1979, our family lost Detective Mike Lane when he was shot and killed in the line of duty. Mike was a dedicated and selfless crime fighter, always working to make the community safer. He will never be forgotten.

*****UPDATE 12/10/2020**** We have another 3 children to adopt! Please click on the link below. Thank you. Thanks to the awesome community members who support our agency and community, all 19 children were adopted within 2 days of this post!!!! Thank you!!... The Whittier Police Department is happy to announce the annual Christmas Toy Drive continues this year! We are partnering with the Salvation Army, Whittier Corps, to spread cheer this holiday season. To Children, Christmas is a special time of the year, where they look forward to having their wishes fulfilled. Unfortunately, not all children will be lucky to have their wishes come true. With your help, we can make a difference. In the past, generous public members dropped off gifts in collection boxes throughout the city. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we modernized our toy drive and are now going online! This gives the community and us the opportunity to participate safely in delivering Christmas cheer. To help bring the joy of Christmas to the less fortunate, please click the link below and follow the instructions to adopt a child. https://www.tsamm.org/angeltree/adopt.dpi If you have any questions please contact Sergeant Brian Corletto at [email protected] Thank you for your generosity.

Happy Thanksgiving to our wonderful community. Enjoy a special day of thanks during these challenging times . We ask our community to celebrate responsibly in light of the current orders for gatherings and as always, please do not drive if you have been drinking alcohol. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has not asked us and does not expect us to take enforcement action for the current health orders. Our police resources will continue to respond to emergencies and our normal course of calls for service.
