We invite you to the "AND THEN THEY CAME FOR US" film virtual screening Feb 12-19. Then, join us on Feb. 19, 4-5pm for a Q & A with actor and activist, George Takei, filmmaker, Abby Ginzberg and Satsuki Ina who is featured in the film. Registration link is available on Whittierlibrary.org/events in the Events Calendar. About the Film:... February 19th is a significant date for the Japanese American community. On this day in 1942, seventy-five years ago, Executive Order 9066 paved the way to the profound violation of constitutional rights that resulted in the forced incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans. Featuring George Takei and many others who were incarcerated, as well as newly rediscovered photographs of Dorothea Lange, And Then They Came for Us brings history into the present, retelling this difficult story and following Japanese American activists as they speak out against the Muslim registry and travel ban. Knowing our history is the first step to ensuring we do not repeat it. And Then They Came for Us is a cautionary and inspiring tale for these dark times. See more

Hi everyone! Jason here at the Whittier Public Library Children’s Department with another LEGO Challenge. This week, we have an engineering and math challenge. Build the tallest tower you can, but there are rules you have to follow: 1) Each level of the tower can only be made of one piece 2) Each piece must have more studs (those are the little bumps on top of the LEGO piece) than the piece above it. For example, a 2x4 piece has 8 studs (2 x 4 = 8). Underneath that, I co...uld put a 1x10 piece (10 studs), and then a 2x6 (2 x 6 = 12) below that. In order to build higher, try to find odd-shaped pieces with an unusual number of studs, and try to find the tallest pieces you can for the more common sizes. You’ll notice my 1-stud and 2-stud pieces are both very tall. You can see my tower has an antenna on top (zero studs) and a tall one-stud piece below, and so on down to a large base piece at the bottom. My tower is just over 14 high. See if you can build yours higher. Have fun, keep building and check back next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. for another LEGO Challenge. And don’t forget to post your creations here. Use the hashtag #wpllegochallenge See more
