Tomorrow is Rotary's World Polio Day https://player.vimeo.com/video/188424207 Please watch this video at the link above that our friend and Past District Governor in San Francisco, Ron Gin, made for OUR Westwood Village Club. When I first joined I remember wondering WHY polio? I still felt somewhat detached. Until I had the privilege to interact with someone at the International Convention in Australia and he thanked me for being involved and looked me in the eye and sa...id, "we can't escape our abusers." We are THIS close. #proudtobearotarian #endpolionow #rotaryinternational #rotarydistrict5280 #westwoodvillagerotaryclub Thank you for taking the time to watch - sound on Our club is doing a fundraiser in loving memory of our two Dons we recently lost if you wish to get involved. https://www.givsum.com//in-loving-memory-of-don-nelson-and See more

Greetings! Our speaker today is Dr. April Pyle, who is an expert in regenerative medicine. Dr. Pyle is pursuing research that could unlock the potential of stem cell-based treatments for a host of diseases. Another aim of her work is to identify the signals that balance survival and self-renewal in stem cells in order to prevent the instability that can lead to tumor development. Pyle received her doctorate from the University of Tennessee and completed a postdoctoral program at Johns Hopkins. This is cutting-edge medical information that will become increasingly important to all of us. Please be sure to join us on Thursday, October 22nd at 12:30 p.m. PST Our Zoom room will open at 12 noon for socializing. Please DM for link.

This has been a rough month for our club as we have lost our other Don and beloved member and renowned architect - Don Park has passed away. Don was a member of the Westwood Village Rotary Club since 1968. Past President, Diane Good, reminded us these two fine gentlemen Don Park and Don Nelson led outstanding long lives and did spend a fair amount of time with their families this year although not in the ways we are all use to spending with our families. Such as big celebr...ations. Neither would want you to be sad so instead of sad let’s be happy we knew them, they were a part of our lives and both were very honorable men. Let’s celebrate them instead!!! These losses have reminded us how proud we are to be a part of the WVRC and the fellowship it provides. A special thank you to Past President Mark Rogo who made the effort to go to his house and get him connected to our weekly Zoom so we were able to visit with him in these last weeks. See more

The Brit is coming! The Brit is coming! Grab a spot of tea at 12:30 PST TODAY and join us for the honor of our District Governor visit. A member of Calabasas Rotary Club since 2007, Bette Hall has held various positions, both within her Club and District 5280. Positions held include Club Avenues of Service and Events Chair, Board member, Club President, Assistant Governor, District Trainer for several years, and three years as the Senior Assistant Governor, Youth Services fo...r District 5280. She has also chaired both the 2019 District Club Assembly and District Conference. Her current District position is the Senior Assistant Governor, Education and Training, as well as District Governor. Bette has been very involved in developing and providing training for the Youth Protection Program and if asked to select an area she is most passionate about in Rotary, the answer has to be our Youth Programs. In 2017 Bette was one of two members who received the Rotarian of the Year award for District 5280, the other being none other than Past District Governor Melody St. John. She is very honored to be selected as District 5280 Governor, 2020-21. Originally from London, England, Bette is a long-time resident of the West San Fernando Valley, and retired a few years ago from a long and varied career in Human Resources after holding positions such as Director and Vice President of Human Resources for large, multi-state/International companies, prior to running her own HR consulting company. What Bette enjoys most about retirement is having more time to volunteer with Rotary and an extra bonus - spending more time with her family, and especially the grandchildren. She feels very fortunate to have them all living within easy driving distance, and being able to go to their activities, including baseball games, to cheer them on. See more

It is with much sadness we share our cherished and long-time member, Don Nelson, passed away on Saturday, September 19. Don was a dedicated member of the Westwood Village Rotary Club for 47 years. During that time, he served this Club generously and in so many capacities. He was a Rotarian of the Year (2003), Past President (2005/2006), Paul Harris Fellow, Paul Harris Society member, Benefactor, John Sandman Fellow and a Major Donor. Our thoughts and prayers are with Don's lo...vely and devoted wife of 71 years, Roz, and the rest of his family and loved ones. Don also had a successful business career and was a retired CPA and parter with Deloitte & Touche. He will be deeply missed. Thank you for being an example of Service Above Self #westwoodvillagerotaryclub #rotary #fellowship
