During the pandemic, 1 in 4 Los Angeles households are facing food insecurity. To help them, I allocated $5.6 million in my Ad-HOC COVID-19 Committee to fund FE...ED LA a new program that will transform 16 YMCA's in the City into Community Empowerment Hubs. The City Council approved our plan today. Families will have access to 1 million contactless grab-and-go meals, as well as 400,000 produce boxes/bags, reaching families, seniors,those with disabilities, and so many who are suffering from underemployment and unemployment across the City. The Community Empowerment Hubs also aim to address the digital divide and educational inequity with in-person and virtual tutoring support for 10,000 low-income students across the City. As Council President, my Families First agenda comes down to just that putting our working poor families first first in rental assistance, first in childcare and distance learning and tutoring assistance, first in utility bill assistance. We’re just getting started and I’m thrilled to partner with YMCA and HCIDLA on this program. #FEEDLA #NeighborhoodEm
